Should I be worried about ID theft?

My DH has just had his suitcase stolen on way back from a business trip. One of the items in it was a data stick containing all his job applications - a lot of them he has been applying for permanent jobs for over 12 months. There might be bank details as sometimes he gets refunded travel costs though there would be no pin numbers, N.I number, work history, addresses, phone numbers and possibly other stuff - he is not to sure what is on there. He is more panicking about other things in the case. He and the other people who had things taken have reported the matter.

Am I being overly dramatic to be worried about ID theft?

Some advice here and here.
I think you probably should be worried. :( At the very least, contact your bank and see what they advise.
It should not be possible, really, to steal identity with only the info you lost. But it seems like plenty of institutions are still lax enough in their security systems that they will let it happen.

Thanks lljkk.

As it is not the cards the bank is not interested so DH will keep a close eye on the accounts. He has had money taken before due to his banks lax security. I think I'll get the credit reports in few weeks as well, and do it for a few months.

The police thought initially they had a good chance of getting some of the stuff back ie they would dump what could not immediately sell which might have included the data stick- but it is not looking like that now.

Was the data stick password protected?
