Average yearly electricity bill

Rafaella · 17/11/2010 12:51

My electricity bill is around £350 per quarter for 5-bed detached house. We're in all day (work from home) but as careful as possible about turning off lights etc. This seems huge and I was wondering if it was the meter as has gone up alot in the last year. Would anyone be kind enough to share their average bill (plus rough size of house) so I can get an idea if it's us or them? Thanks

Gas and Eletric are combined in our bills. We're in a 4 bed semi and there is 7 of us. Nobody is in during the day between 9 and 3.30 monday-friday.
Yearly it is £900.

DiscoDaisy · 17/11/2010 12:59

Even electric

shongololo · 17/11/2010 13:02

4 bed old stone built house, over £1k pa.

Showaddywaddy · 17/11/2010 13:10

3 bed house, semi-detached, v draughty (no double glazing, poor insulation etc).

About 500 per annum in direct debits but we get some refunds too as we don't always use up all of that.

Goober · 17/11/2010 13:12

3 bed semi.
All electric.
Pay 120 a month DD.

needtogetalife · 17/11/2010 13:14

AbstractMouse · 17/11/2010 13:16

3 bed semi, 5 people. We usually pay about £120 a quarter, so approx £500 a year. Tbh we're not that good about turning things off, laptop is always on, Tv on standby etc.

3 bed semi, 5 people, I only work PT so am home a lot. No gas or oil, just electricity. Electricity costs around £700 a year.

walkingonair · 17/11/2010 13:29

5 bed drafty georgian detached with large attic (used daily as playroom)
approx £1500 per annum.

tvaerialmagpiebin · 17/11/2010 13:31

2 bed semi, I don't have the gas heating on except an hour in the morning and 4 hours in the evening. Gas is £200 a year and electricity £75

Don't have a TV and everything is always switched right off, have radio 4 on all day though I am sure a radio doesn't use much 'leccy.....

I am tight, and would like heating on more, but just can't afford it. And have had letter from energy supplier saying bills to go up by 3%......

TheNextMrsDepp · 17/11/2010 13:31

Gas £950 p/a
Electricity £650 p/a

5-bed bungalow, 5 people.

Blooming expensive!

CrankyTwanky · 17/11/2010 13:32

£720 per year electric.
£1300 per year gas (calor)

For a tiny three bed new-build "eco-house"!(Double glazing, thick insulation etc.)Hmm
And thats with us all sleeping in one room to keep warm so we don't have to turn the heating on.
I'm proper anal with turning stuff off too.

MollieO · 17/11/2010 13:33

Electric £596 2 bed Victorian house with underfloor heating in half of ground floor.

NoahAndTheWhale · 17/11/2010 13:33

We are in a 3 bed semi - gas and electricity combined is £100 a month split £60 for gas and £40 for electricity. But we only moved in June and so it is estimated on size of house. Think electricity was about that in our last bill but will see when the next one comes.

CrankyTwanky · 17/11/2010 13:34

Raffa, it looks like we're being had!
Do you have gas or oil too?
Does your electricity company have a standing charge?

I pay £432 pa for Elec and £660 for gas. I am SAHM so in all day. 4 bed detached. Low energy everything tho computer on all day...Do washing in night on cheap elec tariff....But no tumble dryer- the year I had one my elec bill nearly DOUBLED!!! I am too tight to use it now... hence why house looks like chinese laundry......

Debs75 · 17/11/2010 13:43

We pay £55 per month on each which works out at £660 gas and £660 electric.

6 of us in a 3 bed end of terrace.
It is council so the double glazing lets in drafts, the front door doesn't fit and we have no insulation in the loft.

Our thermostat has to be set at 21 or it never switches the heating on.
And we have super strength radiators which kick out some serious heat as they were meant to have safety covers on to stop ds burning himself.
Oh and me and the 2 youngest are in all day but I put them in jumpers instead of switching it up

Showaddywaddy · 17/11/2010 13:43

CrankyTwanky, that's atrocious.

Like I said, we live in a draughty, uninsulated, cold cottage. We're very careful (heating still not on) but we pay less that £500 a year for electricity and we don't have a gas supply.

M1SSUNDERSTOOD · 17/11/2010 13:48

Just had an estimate for the next year for electric for £445. Detached house, converted attic bedrooms, making 3 beds and 2 public. I spent most of time in kitchen where it's warmest. Also have gas ch and for cooking.

dangercat · 17/11/2010 18:10

Looks like mine is comparitively low - it was £240 for electric and £280 for gas over the past 12 months, so £520 total. Gas CH and cooker. Ours is council too and the double glazing is effective and our front door doesn't let in draughts.

Two bed flat, flats on both sides plus above and below so quite snuggly. I'm quite lazy about leaving lights on and things on standby but it looks like I don't have to worry too much.
