Hi guys,
I have been claimimg JSA for 12 weeks now and I have finally been sent a form for housing benefit help to pay the interest on my mortgage. I am in dire straits financially and 22 weeks preg so unlikely to find a job soon. I have maxed my credit cards and am going to sell my house but that could take a while.
If my claim is successful will it be backdated to when I first signed on or will it just be from when they preocessed the claim?
Appreciate any help

Sounds like you're having a shit time.. sorry.

I think it is usually from the date you state when you sign the form (if you return it in good time), but if they have taken 12 weeks to get the application to you,i would point that out on the form, or with a covering letter,
and try from the original date you asked to apply...

Good luck!

the mortgage interest relief only kicks in 13 weeks (irrc) after you've been on benefits - so I'm pretty sure it won't be back dated when it's processed

I presume you've spoken to your mortgage provider??

IME they'd rather get something (the interest payments) than nothing.

Fingers crossed that it all somehow works out well x

once the interest payments go in I'm sure they'll be fine with you.

exH had arrears quite substantinal, built up over 2 different time periods on his (well ourr - but his name) house. They'd actually send the final demand letter for the full amount outstaning on the mortgage, failure to pay that would have led to courts and repossession.

Then he ended up on JSA, he spoke to them and they waited for the payments to start going through.

Obviously in the meantime the arrears built up even more, but as they've been getting regular payments they held off.

I'm sure it'll be fine for you Smile
