If I file a claim, will I lose my no claims bonus?

I have a protected 5 years no claims bonus. Ordinarily, I know that this means that you can have 2 at fault claims within 5 years prior to losing the bonus. What happens if you switch insurers a couple years after one at-fault claim? I'm debating whether or not to make a claim for some body work caused by a passing car whilst my car was parked (didn't stop to leave their details!). It is just cosmetic damage (large scrape to paint), but will be costly to pay out-of-pocket (I was quoted about 2,000). I don't want to file a claim if I will lost my bonus. I called the insurer, and the said I could have 2 at-failt claims, etc, but perhaps they didn't notice that I had 1 at-fault claim 2 years ago with my old insurer.

TIA.

Maybe the Five years has started again from the date you signed on with your new insurer.
Personally, I would not claim for the scratch. It seems to me that the cost of bodywork and paintwork has gone through the roof to crazy figures.

I think that you may not officially lose your NCB, but that the claim will be taken into account when assessing your next premium; possibly making the premium itself bigger, whilst not affecting the NCB itself. If that makes sense? They are fly, these insurers.
