Am very ashamed about this but - have never known details of DP's finances .
Basically he is retired ( at 60 from NHS job ,has £ 700 per month pension ) has £125,000 invested ,and we have paid mortagage off .
Money isn't something we discuss ,though I worry endlessly that he doesn't have a handle on it and one day we'll wake up destitute .
Attempts to discuss are never very fruitful ,I don't know what questions to ask and he's defensive at my lack of trust .
Anyway - DS applying to Uni so I'm sure we'll need some kind of statement about income .Have warned DP about this .
How does one get proof of " income " when living on pension and ( I think this is how we manage ) occasional lump sums transferred into current account from savings ?
As far as I can tell he has an ISA and rest in stocks and shares managed by the bank I think .
General and specific advice humbly requested here .
Would be so grateful .
Feel so ashamed not to be on top of this .

He will get a payslip every month for the pension payment and a P60 at the end of the tax year, the same as employed people.

He will get statements (at least annually) for the ISA and the bank will be able to supply a list of his shares.

That should be enough for the university funding people to assess income. They will probably give full details of what proof of income/savings they require as well.

Slightly off topic, but from what you have said, it doesn't sound like you have made a will, or if you have, it is not up to date. Job number 1, telephone your solicitor and make an appointment to make/update both your wills.

In the process, it is likely you would need to be told about DP's finances.

Very good point, MrCjIB, it does sound like you need to make sure you and your DCs will be provided for if anything happens to your DH as it does sound like he has his head in the sand a bit over finances.

Thanks for that Dancinghippo and MrCjib - makes things a bit clearer .
