HELP.... Sorting home insurance... v.confused!

Hi all, so I'm trying to sort out my home insurance. We live in a Housing Association house, have had home insurance before but never really thought about it IYKWIM.

Basically I'm now seriously shifting through as many as I can and the cheapest are Co-Op, AA and Tesco Standard. 2 of these have no legal or emergency suppport but do I really need this given that our home is rented?

There is also the fact of accidental damage, I've never really understood this to be honest but would you say it's a valuable part of insurance?

ARGH so confusing, please help! Any advice would be appreciated.

TIA

Presumably you're just insuring contents? Accidental damage is useful if you were to drop a pot of paint on the carpet or something similar i.e. the item doesn't have to be stolen or damaged in a fire to have it replaced.

Think legal support usually refers to the possibility of you being sued by someone for an accident on your premises... but I'd check out what it means properly. Emergency support might be useful if it means they will send out a plumber in the case of a big water leak. Again, check exactly what they mean

I think most accidental insurance covers mishaps caused by toddlers or children, so on that basis (I check to make sure it does first) I pay a bit extra for the accidental cover.

The family legal cover often included in home insurance policies can cover you for all kinds of situations not connected to the home, such as help with employment disputes. It is usually very cheap and could prove to be a lifeline.
