And if so how long was it until you got it back?

2-3 weeks i think it was!

LynetteScavo · 19/10/2010 18:24

And how do you prove you haven't actually authorised the transaction?

I have. Quite a lot of money taken out of online savings account after I got taken in by the very first phishing e-mail I ever saw. Blush

When I noticed - which wasn't until it crossed my mind to look at the interest that I thought would have gone in to the account - I rang up straight away. The money was back within about 5 days - I remember being very impressed - and the fraudulent transaction was sort of wiped from history. No interest lost.

No, had £250K paid IN in error once though... (yes, I reported it and gave it back)

notrightnow · 19/10/2010 18:56

Twice, both times had it returned within 24 hours.

Once was a cheque ( chequebook stolen in post), second time was a cloned debit card; each time I had to sign some forms saying it wasn't me. The first time it was a known problem in our local sorting office and the second time I was elsewhere using my card at the time.

Is your bank giving you a bad time?

Mines a 'bad news' story... look away now if you're of a sensitive disposition

My brother's ex girlfriend (we think) robbed him of a bank card and then used it (or gave it to someone else to use) to withdraw the maximum daily cash from an account he didn't use very much. It went on for about two weeks and by the time he noticed he was down several thousand.

In his case, because the pin-number had been used and because the CCTV footage at the various cashpoints was no longer held he could not prove that he was not the person that had withdrawn the money. So the bank did not uphold the claim and he was held liable for the entire loss.

24 hours sounds much more positive.

I noticed this morning when checking my account online I only had £35 ish pounds available, even though my balance was quite high. When in enquired in the branch, it seems there is a transaction about to go through, but it's not yet showing what it is. I've been advised to check on- line again in the morning to see if the money has or hasn't been taken (it could be a human error apparently Hmm). If the money has been taken they will start an investigation.

All the bank knows is that it is a a request for the money from abroad. The customer services lady did go a bit flushed and look bothered, then sugested the money might not actually be taken from my account. With hind sight I thought that was weird. Confused

Is it sorted, Lynette?

headinclouds101 · 21/10/2010 16:00

My husband had his debit card cloned and 900 pounds withdrawn over 3 days - 3 times the max 300 pound withdrawal.

The bank actually contacted him about it - the fraud department was alerted as the money was withdrawn in Poland.

He had it back within a week I think.

pagwatch · 21/10/2010 16:05

yes. £9000 about three weeks ago. The bank paid it back a week later.

Naoko · 23/10/2010 16:11

A few weeks ago, yes - bit of a shock as I was in Italy at the time and suddenly my card didn't work due to insufficient funds... Immediately rang the bank and blocked the card. They were very good; they got me to categorically state it hadn't been me who'd bought £500 worth of carpets and booked a hotel in Nottingham, which was easy to prove seeing as I was, as mentioned, in Italy when this happened. They refunded me two days later and once I got back to the UK I had to sign a form confirming the statement I'd made over the phone. That was all, so although it was very stressful it worked out alright very quickly.

We had £2k taken out of a current account. It took a week to get it back.

Dh had £35 debited from his account from someone buying a phone credit voucher. That took a couple if weeks to get back.
