Hi

Was wondering if anyone knew the income threshold for child care grants while studying. I have been turned down for any help with my cost (8k per annum) because my husband earn 17K. I'm going ti have to drop out it seems so unfair!

Wouldn't you qualify for CTC and WFTC to cover some of the child-care costs?

Child Care Grants for Students

minidriver74 · 15/10/2010 20:32

According to the link, if your family qualifies for the Child element of Working Family Tax Credit then you won't get the Child Care Grant for Students. Even if you're not working, you should be able to claim that as a couple.

onadietcokebreak · 18/10/2010 08:32

Did you give them details of your financal commitments? My dp is on about that and we get it. They need info like rent, council tax insurances and maintenance etc x

onadietcokebreak · 18/10/2010 08:37

The above info isn't correct. You can get ctc and wtc as a couple. It would only afffect grant if op received the childcare element of it and to qualify for this she would need to be working 16hrs per week

onadietcokebreak · 18/10/2010 08:40

Btw there are no income thresholds as such for this grant as it varies according to commitments. DO NOT drop out of uni. Apply to the hardship fund for help til this is sorted

Chil1234 · 18/10/2010 10:42

"If you, or your spouse or partner, get the childcare element of the Working Tax Credit, you won't be able to get the Childcare Grant as well."

@onadietcokebreak.... The above is copy/pasted direct from the DirectGov website.

onadietcokebreak · 18/10/2010 11:20

Yes the childcare element.

Your post above say the Child element of Working Family Tax Credit which doesnt actually exist but most would think is child tax credits

So your post on Saturday is inaccurate and quite misleading.

Chil1234 · 18/10/2010 19:19

I post the full link, miss out the suffix 'care' and that gets me an 'inaccurate and misleading'???? Thanks a lot...

onadietcokebreak · 18/10/2010 19:41

Sorry chil just it was a crucial element and gave your entire post a whole different meaning.

minidriver74 · 19/10/2010 21:49

thanks a lot guys, but I can't get the tax credits to pay for any childcare unless i work 16 hours.

Childcare grant(from student loan) is my only option and I have launched an appeal and applied for the hardship grant!

Its a minefield and the sceptic in me says the systems purpose is to confuse....wish me luck Confused

Sounds like you are doing the right thing.

Did you give details of your financial commitments like rent etc. My DP is on similar wages and we get FULL childcare grant.
