Someone has my card details what to do?

Hi, I went to a party a few weeks ago and bought something and paid by filling my card details out on the form given

Now I normally wouldn't do this but I;d had a drink so stupidly went ahead and filled out my long card number, my name, start date, expiry date and the last three digits on the back

now I have my goods but they were not as described but the "lady" I bought them from is refusing to change or refund me for them, customer services will not help as the woman who sold the goods failed to put her id number and details on the order form....and now surprise surprise is refusing to give them to me

As of yet no money has been taken from my account though, I ifully intend to return the goods but don;t want to do so until I know no money will be taken from my account

This morning I have cancelled my debit card am I right in thinking that the card details I have given will be no good?

"This morning I have cancelled my debit card am I right in thinking that the card details I have given will be no good?"

What you should have done instead is contest the payment, rather than cancelling the card, which won't necessarily stop payment (it depends on if the merchant has some evidence that the transaction took place prior to the date the card was reported stolen or lost).

Giving someone the CV2 (the three digit number) is an absolute no-no. It means they're going to put the transaction through as a cardholder-not-present transaction, and the CV2 is only supposed to be handled by merchants under fairly limited circumstances. For future reference, if a merchant wants it for a transaction at which they're present, walk away: you should only give it to retailers who have a valid on-line agreement.

right so should I call the bank and say basically what I've said above? The thing is though no money has been taken, even though the lady should have (according to customer services) put the payment through before sending the goods. It's not on my list of pending transactions yet either will they still be able to contest the payment

If I;ve cancelled the card does that mean that my CV2 number will have changed? So if the person who has my details on file decides to try and buy something with those details they won'tbe able to?

Sorry for all the questions I have no idea about bank stuff really, but will definately never be doing anything like this again!

yes.

"If I;ve cancelled the card does that mean that my CV2 number will have changed? So if the person who has my details on file decides to try and buy something with those details they won'tbe able to?"

I don't understand the transaction. Surely the woman you paid isn't going to buy anything with the card, she's going to collect payment under her merchant agreement? In which case, cancelling the card won't help if she has evidence the transaction took place before the cancellation. Otherwise if you went shopping on Saturday and lost your card on Sunday, all the shops you bought things from on Saturday wouldn't get paid, which is obviously not the case. If she whacks your details into Amazon they'll get refused, but that's not what she's doing, presumably.

thanks no that's what I wanted to clear up, if out of sour grapes she decides to use my card that's fine

If she still takes the cash for the transaction I can then return my goods via store as customers services will be able to trace my card payment back to her iyswim it's very confusing!! She's basically refusing to give me gift vouchers or a refund as she;s saying that they don't do that, but after speaking to customer services they will give me vouchers or an exchange in store (although they say she should be doing this) but as she refuses to give me her details I cannot return it store Grin or to the freepost address........I don;t want to return through her as I feel she has been dishonest so far (she originally told us if we changed our minds a refund would be given, it was not)
