I'm fairly sure I typed in my correct password

But it says no more attempts can be made.....it was my first time of logging in

What is going on?

what kind of questions? did you follow a link? double check the address you typed in to be sure it was the right one

with nationwide sometimes they claim I've typed in the wrong password repeatedly. I leave it, come back later and it works first time so it's a fault on their system

lal123 · 07/10/2010 21:27

When I first registered for on-line banking I'd accidentally put password in in capitals - is you password/are your security questions case specific?

KatyMac · 07/10/2010 21:28

Full name
Date of birth
Postcode
Details of the accounts I hold

Can you ring the bank - they normally have a 24 hour thingy I think.

lal123 · 07/10/2010 21:29

Katy - that does sound a bit weird - are you sure the site is the right one?

KatyMac · 07/10/2010 21:30

It's 'timed me out' which oddly makes me feel much more confident

I log in 4 or 5 times a day & have done for several years - so I'm fairly sure I got it right

I'll try again tomorrow

that sounds totally dodgy. did you answer the questions? is it the first time you've used online banking? I'd ring your bank asap

KatyMac · 07/10/2010 21:32

& when I log in tomorrow I will go via the homepage rather than through my book mark

Plus I will run AVG (paid for) before I go to bed

There is a chance that somebody has mistakenly tried to log into your account.

I managed to type my username incorrectly about 5 times and locked some other poor person out of their account. I had to phone up the bank and explain that I'm an idiot what I had done.

So don't panic it's not always something dodgy!

BertieBotts · 08/10/2010 01:13

Hmm. That doesn't sound right at all. XP had a similar thing and it turned out he had some kind of weird virus which redirected the link that he'd clicked from google. It was the right web page address, security padlock and everything. Very very clever, very scary. It also asked for all those details, full name, full account details, date of birth. AVG didn't pick it up (was free version though) but malwarebytes did.

Your bank will only ever ask you for your security number and password - why would they need your account details? Surely they have them. And date of birth, ditto. Also most banks only ask for a certain number of digits, not the whole thing. You'll know which is normal for your bank.

I would consider phoning the 24 hour emergency helpline if you can and just check there has been no unauthorised activity on your account.

AnyFuleKno · 08/10/2010 01:20

agreed - it's possible you were redirected to a phishing site. Call the bank right away. Better safe than sorry

KatyMac · 08/10/2010 08:08

Well I went in off the main bank page & logged in first time

I'll do that for a bit until I sort it out & I will send them screen dumps of last night

nannynick · 08/10/2010 08:23

Being asked lots of information is very suspicious.

Good to hear it is working now.
May be wise to change the password/pin, plus monitor transactions closely.

AnyFuleKno · 08/10/2010 10:21

if you suspect that you've been on a phishing site YOU NEED TO CALL YOUR BANK NOW. If it turns out to be true and someone is clearing your accounts, you are risking making yourself liable for some of it by not notifying the bank right away. This will be in your terms and conditions.

I hope it isn't the case, but you can't be complacent about this.

KatyMac · 08/10/2010 12:17

Spoke to them - every thing is fine & they don't know why the screen came up

So Hmm still

OP posts:
nannynick · 08/10/2010 12:38

Good to hear you called them. Keep an eye on the account.

AnyFuleKno · 08/10/2010 13:45

you've done the right thing Katy, it's in the Bank's court now to investigate.
