Just curious, has anyone done anything with their child trust fund voucher?

Just wondering as i read in a baby mag a few weeks back that although 90% of people entitled to it have received it, 70% have not invested it.

Not suprised when you read up on how much theyre all charging for their "services" poopoo, there wont be anything left in there by the time their 18, and im certainly not putting my hard cash into something that may increase, but may decrease in value

nutcracker you can't split the final amount between your kids as the money belongs to the child named and they will have control of it when they reach majority.

You can encourage them to split it, but it is their money

Good lord, we need every penny we can get for dd's future as we have no family inheritance coming our way and we have nothing to give her ourselves. it's quite depressing to read people on here being so glib about money for their kid's future.

WideWebWitch · 10/09/2005 13:29

I haven't done anything with mine either, I just haven't got around to it.

Pinotmum · 10/09/2005 13:33

I invested it straight off, and am grateful on behalf of my ds for this money. I got a statement today as his first bday is next month. Those who haven;t done anything with it can explain that to their child when asked. It's the child's money not the parents after all.

WideWebWitch · 10/09/2005 13:44

Oh pinotmum, don't be so dictatorial, it's not the end of the world if you don't invest it, my dd will manage perfectly well in life without a poxy £250 from the govt!

Pinotmum · 10/09/2005 13:45

WWW, Pot calling kettle ...

mummylonglegs · 10/09/2005 18:20

WWW, £250 is not poxy to everyone. It's fine for you to feel that way about it but it's worth being sensitive for those of us for whom an unexpected £250 is not poxy.

starshaker · 10/09/2005 19:02

the point is the money is not for us its for our kids so wheather or not we are loaded its a good start to them. my dd already has 3 accounts that her papa, auntie and us put money into. then she has the trust fund thingy which she cant touch till shes 18. the account we have for her is available now but we only use it when she need things (the resason we have it).

thanls for reminding me - must put it on my "to do" list for this week.....

loulounz · 12/09/2005 22:43

Have put mine in building society account. Wouldn't refuse a freebee but ........

Just feel sad that eldest dd missed out by a few weeks! To be fair to both I now have to find 250 for her as well and invest it and hope it roughly makes the same amount of money in years to come!

Feel sorry for people with more kids - where will all their extra money come from if they want to be fair to all of them?
