Ok here goes, We moved out of a rented house last year oct, now the landlord said that some things needed to be replace.

  1. Kitchen sufface because of a few scrutches

  2. Lawn in the back as they said that some of it had died while we were tenants there.

We thought it was a bit unreasonable but said that we just wanted our deposit back so do what you have to and give us what is left (out of £1,800)

When it was becoming apparent that we were not getting any of it back, a few words were exchanged on the phone and by text.

We did not contaact them again as I was pregnant and felt that I could not deal with it till the baby was born, now he is almost 5 months old. I called them 3 weeks ago and the husband promised to send a cheque out in a week. We still have not received a thing, I sent him a text on Friday but got no reply of any kind.

Now my dilema is, I want to stage a protest outside there house and I want to know where I stand on this legally. Please help guys as I am thinking of starting it tomorrow but don't want to get in trouble with the law.

You can claim this back via the small claims court. It costs about £50 and frankly, just saying you are doing this (and actually starting proceedings) will very often get you your money back. I'd claim the whole lot back. Returfing is completely unreasonable. YOu can't stop grass dying!

Phone CAB and let them contact the landlord on your behalf.

Thanks Aloha, I always thought it was much more than that.

Kid, what do I need to provide them with?

I threatened to take my local council to court a last year due to lack of repairs to the property. I made an appointment with CAB and gave them my details (name, address, phone number) and told them what had happened. I had photos as evidence which they looked at but didn't keep. They then wrote a letter to the council and sent me a copy.
The council then got off their backside and did the repairs after I had been chasing them for 2 years!

Ok guys I have gone with your advice and have checked out the SCC and also CAB but there is no guarantee that even if I won then I would get the money back and there is no legislation in place so far that protects the tenants here

No but it's worth threatening it anyway inferno, especially as it was such a large deposit. more info here about making a claim good luck.
