National Insurance contributions while at home with baby?

Hi all,

I'm sure I heard somewhere that my stamp contributions would be covered while I am at home with our baby and claiming child benefit...is this true? And if yes, do I have to do anything to get it started or is it automatically linked to child benefit applications?

According to the DWP, if you personally are in receipt of the £81 child benefit, then your national insurance payments are automatically covered.

yes that is true. iirc, you get creditted with the years rather than any actual financial contributions being made though. What happens ot those who don't claim CB though, or , as in my case, had a break in claiming while abroad ?

You can pay back years I think Lizs. That's why I still get UK CB even though abroad (and yes, I am allowed to do so) to cover my NI.

In fact I did too Blush but there was a short period (maybe 3 months or so) when technically we were n't entitled so had to effectively pay it back for ds then reclaim for both dc. No idea whether that would have affected my year's credit.
