Engagement ring valuation

My grandmother left me her jewellery and I have two engagement rings that I think are worth more than the £1000 insurance limit for non-specified items. How much can I expect to pay to get this done? Where should I get this done? Any recommendations or experiences?

I had mine done through a good jewellers in Liverpool I paid £65 for the first item and £45 for each other piece.
The problem for insurance is if they are valued over £2k for each item the price can double your contents insurance.

Ernst Jones charge a flat fee. Some other jewellers charge a % of the valuation.

The valuation you need is called a facsimile valuation I think for insurance. Most insurers are cool with stuff up to £5k without it making a difference as long as it is declared.

I took mine into Goldsmiths and they charged £5o per item. They were sent away and came back a couple of weeks later, with written valuations and photos.
Most insurance cos will want proof of ownership and three yearly valuations on items over £5k and proof of ownership only under £5k.
