If DSS goes to work will his mother lose her benefits?

Very quickly, DSD is 18 and lives with his mother who thinks she is too poorly to work but the DWP disagree.
She gets ctc £54 and cb £20 per week for him plus her income support, housing and council tax benefits.
He is intending on doing a third year at college (and he would get ema £30 per week) but also working at the weekend and could earn about £125 for this.
She is refusing to let him go to work unless he pays her the £75 per week that she says she will lose if he goes to work.
Does anyone know what happens with parents benefits, surely the dependent child can't become the provider?

No I don't think she'd lose them. That is really quite cruel to prevent your DSS working - doesn't she care about his future prospects?!

My DSS works and does pay towards food etc (his mum asks for way too much IMO) but AFAIK she still gets all the same benefits.

Child Benefit will end soon if he is age 18.

CTC will probably also end soon anyway.

Thanks for the replys.
Lucinda, do you know if CB and CTC carry on until he's 19 or until he finishes full time education?

CB and CTC carry on until he's 19 or finishes full time ed upto NVQ level 3,which ever comes first.
She will still get income support because that is for her not your DSS.But if he works he may have to pay a percentage of rent and council tax.If he earns £125 aweek i would think it would be about £8 per week.

Child benefit can in some cases be paid unitl they are 20.

This from Direct gov....

Changes that affect your child - when your child is 16 or over

The Child Benefit Office will stop paying Child Benefit to you if your child:

leaves education or training that qualifies for Child Benefit
leaves education or training that qualifies for Child Benefit and starts working 24 hours a week or more and they get or expect payment
starts education which is provided through work or training provided by a contract of employment
starts a training course that's not 'approved'
starts an advanced education course leading to a qualification like a degree
turns 20 years old - Child Benefit stops completely when your child reaches 20

bascially my understanding of that is that they can work less than 24hrs a week whilst at college without it affecting it- However I cant find the full guidance I wanted so would advise they check with Child benefit office

19 and in full tiem education - if the teen leaves full tiem education and goes to work, then the tax credit and cb stops

But if the dc gets ema and the paretn gets ctc and cb and the teen works aswell - well that isn't taken into account

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately this has proved to us all that he is a bit of a lazy wotsit, who can be dishonest and let a few people down.
Turns out that he made up an excuse to get out of doing a pretty hard but very financially rewarding job that he could have progressed in.
I'm ranting now sorry. But I'm Angry.
Thanks again everyone.
