If I remember rightly, it's 118 pounds a week, or 90percent of your weekly wage if you earn less than 118 a week.

you may be able to claim housing and council tax benefit.
You should try to claim job seekers allowance too, to bump up your income.

i'm hoping he will be well for work when his sick note ends which means he will only have 1 week off. I think we should be ok but if he is off any longer i will need some kind of help, luckily my parents have offered to help but i would rather not accept as they do so much for us anyway

Its actually about £80 per week- the figures quoted above was maternity pay.

Tegan do you work? If so how many hours? Do you rent? How long is sick note for?

tegan · 22/08/2010 14:49

You can claim income support until his first payment of sick pay or until he returns to work.

Do you receive Working tax credits?

Do you rent?

onadietcokebreak · 22/08/2010 14:52

He can claim Income Support. Only worth it if going to claim it monday though. You will get council tax benefit whilst he is off sick too.

You can have savings of less than 16k and claim.

Worthwhile claiming even if you are hopeful he will return to work. If he doesnt return you may still be entitled to come Income Support when he gets paid first payment of SSP.

Income Support is about £100 per week for a couple.

phone number is 0800 0556688

when he calls dont press the option for if you are still and unable to work...if you do it will divert you to the Employment support allowance claims line. You do not want to claim ESA.

You want to claim Income Support as you are awaiting first payment of SSP. You may be told you cant claim- which is bollocks (They tried to tell me and friend we couldnt claim....really I said? Odd how I have processed many I.S claims for x amount of years and know I can)

Your partner will need to be the one who claims and calls.....it actually worth the hassle esp if it ends up more than one week.....
