Benefits advice

My husband has just got his Ofsted certificate ready to start childminding. He has a few vacancies to fill so the original plan was.......fill the vacancies then quit his job ready to start minding end of October when I return to work (currently on maternity).

What we are worried about is that he won't have filled all the vacancies by the time I go back to work and we will end up having to get our own childminder for our DD2 and DD1 after school.

If he was to quit anyway without all his spaces filled what benefits can he claim to make up for the loss of earnings? And does anyone know how much he'd get approx??

Or if he didn't childmind at all and chose to be a stay at home dad what could he claim?

I work 28hrs a week approx £20K p/a.

Appreciate any advice.

With your wage, and the fact that he effectively put himself out of a job, I don't think he'd be able to claim anythng afaik

Could you increase your hours so you work fulltime so he can afford to be a full time stay at home dad?

That is one of our options me increasing my hours, but I fought like mad to get 4 days originally and doubt i'd get the 5th day back!

He'd be self-employed wouldn't he? And therefore not entitled to anything.

And is he'sa SAHD he would be looking for work so wouldn't be eligible for JSA or IS.
