I have an Abbey account I want to close

I also have Natwest

I need an account with another bank to replace Abbey (in case I can't get money out of the natwest for any reason)

So is there a good account anywhere

I don't want anything special, low/no fees, no overdraft maybe accessible at the PO??

i have an account with smile and they've been great
have been with them for about 11 or 12 years now

can access at PO as they're part of the co-operative group

all online too which is great, no paper statements to store!

I have a leaflet for the Co-op bank that sounds good, they do decent interest rates and as they are a co-operative (the clue is in the name, I suppose )they care more about providing a decent & ethical service than ripping people off. I would defo move to them if I cba had the time to do it.

Yes co-op is under consideration

Thanks

I like the Halifax Reward account. If you pay in a minimum £1000 each month they give you £5 and there are no fees.

I have a Co-operative bank account and would recommend it.

EightiesChick · 04/08/2010 11:06

Another recommendation for the Co-op, or smile as their internet arm.

Bicnod · 04/08/2010 11:06

Whatever you do don't go with HSBC, they are shite. As soon as we've got our co-op mortgage sorted I'm moving our j/a from HSBC to co-op. They are definitely the way forward (have had a co-op credit card for several years now).

KatyMac · 04/08/2010 11:08

Is there a minimum pay in for the co-op current account?

Don't think there is - although we do pay in DH's salary each month. We have a non-overdraft account and no perks so I don't think they would have a minimum amount to pay in. Not sure about other accounts.

Here is the co-ops current account page Here

First Direct. Perfect and wonderful in every way.

Seriously, customer service is FANTASTIC, they never make mistakes, and always handle things immediately and call you back when they say they will.

No stress whatsoever (as long as I don't go over my limit, but that's my problem!)

KatyMac · 05/08/2010 07:49

Thanks everyone - I went with Co-op; I will let you know how it goes

I used to recommend First Direct but they've suddenly got really shite. LOADS of mistakes, tons of hassle on the phone - everything has to be done by the book now where as previously you got really personal and helpful service.

I'm actively looking to move banks too now so will be watching this with interest. Considering Santander.
