Just got a letter about 'offence'. I was caught doing 36 in a 30mph zone. Do you think I might get a caution for a first timer? So annoying cos I never speed but was talking to dd about road safety and whoops.

You'll get a letter explaining you can pay 60pounds and get the three penalty points. You won't have to go to court.

Just posted off my £60 fine. I was offered a speed awareness course instead(£90) but you couldnt really pick when you did it, which doesnt fit in with my kids or job - my holidays are the school holidays and i could hardly ask for any extra day off for that.

Oh greenbean, you should have taken the speed awareness if you possibly could, you don't get points with that!

codsicle · 10/09/2005 17:49

oh yes
an error I think

greenbean · 10/09/2005 17:59

What is the harm in 3 points? I dont drive for my job plus I never speed normally. The course details said they could fail you and even though I'm a reasonably good driver i could do without the stress.

"I never speed normally"
hahahahahahha

codsicle · 10/09/2005 18:06

hey green been do 50 in a 30 wiht a defective rear light and youa re up to 12!

fsmail · 10/09/2005 19:58

My DH got 5 points and a £254 fine but that was is Warwickshire which is well known for fund raising

greenbean · 11/09/2005 14:10

codsicle-extremely unlikely to do 50 in a 30 zone unless I noticed you were behind me!

codsicle · 11/09/2005 15:08

its based on income actually

RTKangaMummy · 11/09/2005 15:12

so do you mean that if you are not employed at the time

you pay less

Can they take DH wages in to account?

emmatom · 11/09/2005 15:36

RTKmummy, that's only if you end up contesting the offence and going to court (and therefore not accepting the 3 points and £60 fine).

RTKangaMummy · 11/09/2005 15:38

oooooooh right I see

Thanks for telling me

codsicle · 11/09/2005 19:24

no emma thats not true
you can go to dourt even if you plead guilty by post
it depends on the amount over you do

serah · 11/09/2005 19:33

Oh no! Greenbean - do you think you could phone the place where you sent the cheque off to with some cock and bull story about you writing the cheque for the fine and then thinking about and deciding you would do the course, but then DP/H posted it thinking you wanted to pay the fine due to the difficulties of holidays? You can play on that.

You will pay far more than £60 every year for the next 3(? think its 3) in car insurance for 3 points in speeding.

If you have to throw a sicky, it is more than worth it. You are lucky to live in a County which runs the Speed Awareness courses btw.

greenbean · 06/12/2005 18:41

Just renewed my insurance after formentioned speeding ticket. It added £20 onto the cost with direct line. S0 it was worth taking the fine instead of the course.
