Credit checks when applying for tenancy

My DH and I have a 6 month old DD, and it's well and truly time to move out of our 1 bed flat, which we own. We're renting out our flat and taking a tenancy on another.

I don't work, and haven't since mat leave in October (long story, bad employer), and I don't have the best credit history, either.

The Estate Agent we found the flat through use a credit checking agency who check for adverse credit, CCJs etc (I don't have a CCJ though, was just useless with money when younger, which has set me in pretty bad stead). I really don't want my bad credit rating to affect whether or not we get the flat, so I suppose my question is this:
if I'm not earning, do I need to be checked? i.e My husband will be paying all of the rent, most likely for the whole tenancy, so wouldn't it make sense for just him to be checked, and why would they need my details as well?

Or am I just being a bit too hopeful?

I think that, if your husband's credit record is checked, your information is likely to come up at the same time. My colleague's new husband had a bad credit history and found this to be the case. The way to find out for certain would be to subscribe to something like Experian and see what comes up on the report for your husband... then there would be no surprises.

You may find that you're financially linked - if you have joint accounts, or joint mortgage. That would show up on a credit report.

i was checked and my husband pays all the rent. The lanlord might be ok with your bad record depending on when/what it is. If not then you'll probably have to pay 6 months rent in advance.

I wasn't checked, all done on DP's info (thank goodness). We hadn't taken out any credit in joint names so there was no link.

Failing that, would anyone in your family be happy to go guarantor for you?
