DD will be 13 next month.
We want to get her a bank account which we intend to pay her pocket money into each month and she will have a cash card to take it out when she needs it.
Could anyone recommend one?

If you are happy with your bank, it might be worth opening an account for your DD with them, especially if you use online banking. For example, our DD has an account with Nationwide as we do and transferring money between accounts is instant. If you use a different bank, transfers may take a few days, though some banks can now do this within a few hours rather than days.

Whilst it is unlikely to be of concern to you for a few years, we have been in the situation where DD has found herself with insufficient funds in her account, or has had just less than £10 so can't use the cashpoint and has needed cash, for a fare for example. One quick phone call and I have been able to transfer funds instantly in to her account for her to withdraw.

I know, I know, this doesn't help with teaching them to budget properly, but it is useful in an emergency.

Our DC have an account with Lloyds. No bells and whistles but it's always funny to watch them open their statements and claim "Someone has been spending my money!"

DD has a simple Nationwide account with a cash card
