That's it really. Food shop for me, DH and our 2 DDs seems to take just about all of my monthly budget. I wondered what other people's shopping costs is- I may have to ask for more money for household expenses as we never seem to have enough...

£50-£60 per week including cleaning stuff and other household goodies. USually £30-40 of that is at asda and the other £20 is for fruit and veg (cheaper at greengrocers) and milk/bread top ups.

That is for 2 adults and 1 child.

Will go up though in next few weeks when baby comes with nappies/formula - hoping only by about £10 per week but we'll see.

TheArmadillo · 15/07/2010 19:06

that includes ds packed lunches and lunches for me and dh.

£120 twice a month plus little top ups of bread and milk maybe £5 a week extra.

that's for 2 of us and 2 small children, 1 in nappies. no booze, no meat.

£60-70 per week. Me DP DS 2.5 and two DSC for tea 3 days a week,

Oumasrusks · 15/07/2010 20:23

We spend around £120 a week for 2 adults and 2 young children (one in nappies still) and that includes toiletries and cleaning products and the whole shop is done online at Tesco.

I did a meal plan for this week though and our bill only came to £82! I'm going to try to get under £100 every week from now because I think it can be done.

£120 pw and sometimes up to £160 particulary if OH decides to get BBQ stuff. 2 adults, one child, 1 baby.

I meal plan, organise etc, hardly waste a thing but we plough through!!!

OH has a massive packed lunch so works long hours physical jobs so need those extra bits.

I still dont get how some of you manage on £60pw??? Does that include any takeaways/sunday lunch out??

With bottles of squash (against pop), quality bread, bottles of milk, salads.
Two bottles of wine - say £10. Have cut down on mid week drinking as that was stupid.

Pop out for a few bits at the Co-op and thats over £10 for bread, milk etc.

Have tried to cut down but doesnt work.

I'd say £60-70 per week is a good average here. That's 2 adults (+ packed lunch for 1 extra adult - don't ask!) 3.6 year old and 17month old.

Booze generally comes out of our own 'pocket money'. Only buy nappies and wipes occasionally (DD in 1 at night and DS in washable.)

That includes cleaning and laundry stuff as and when.

Menu planning and shopping online are the key to keeping on top of grocery costs.

We are a family of four, me, DH and 2 DDs (16 & 13). When I 'went shopping' I would regulary spend £100+ week on mainly impulse buys.

I've been shopping online for 18 months now and average about £70 per week. Mostly around the £60 mark but more when I buy loo rolls/washing powder etc. This includes all food and household stuff but we don't drink, which I think makes a big difference compared what my friends spend.

We all have packed lunches and have one meal a week at my parents' house.

MegBusset · 16/07/2010 22:05

We budget £450 a month (so erm just over £100 a week) for 2 adults and 2 young DC (one in nappies). Would be considerably lower without wine/beer but then so would be our enjoyment of life!

MrsTittleMouse · 16/07/2010 22:12

We budget for 350 a month, but I try to come in under 300. That's all food, including packed lunches, a third adult for two days a week, one child in nappies, one child in pull ups just for bedtime, and all cleaning and household stuff.

Meal planning rocks!

Doodleydoo · 16/07/2010 22:20

Meal planner here and online shopper so can't impulse buy. On average I have worked out a years shop and is around £100 per week but that includes xmas (we had 18 this year!!!) and all nappies, all toiletries and all cleaning - usually so high as bulk buy the offers when on as we have a garage so consequently haven't been running short of anything - could be a bit less than that as at the moment am spending about £50 but was including all the year and the entertaining we had done over xmas which was expensive!
