Have to admit that my heart fell when I realised what this book was, just because I really did not particularly like the person it was about. BUT it was a good read and although I have not shifted totally in my thinking you cannot help warm to her and I was certainly touched by all the emotion.

I am now pleased that i have read this book and it definitely gets you thinking about how fragile life is, no matter what age you are.

I was expecting that reaction to the book when people first saw it tbh I ahve been on mn long wnough to have seen those threads.

I obviously have not been around long enough, as I ahve not seen any threads on this. But, as I said, I was pleased that I read it and it was tons better than i thought, so well done!

My husband's reaction when he saw the book was "why is that in this house and you're not really going to read it?!".

I love a nose into people's lives though so gave it a go. Really glad I did. Not sure how much was worded by the 'author' but for such a hard subject it was well put together and I wanted to read more.

A good book to make me stop shouting at my dc and to give them a big cuddle.

Loler glad you 'enjoyed' it, agree about the effect it has in making you hug the children.

I know know you mean about the writing but it was diffinately in her voice iyswim

Sorry I tried with this book but I really couldn't get into it at all.

You're right about it being written in the subject's voice which is probably why I couldn't get into the book (couldn't listen to her when she was alive).

Also couldn't face the book as it was only just over a year ago that every time we turned the TV on or opened a magazine it was coming at us from all angles, I don't think I've recovered from the over exposure.

So sorry, it really wasn't for me at all.

Mmm ... I wasn't particularly looking forward to reading this book. I did stick with it because I don't like giving up on book's once i have started them. I can't say I really enjoyed it although obviously touched by emotion and tragedy of it but found the 'voice' quite difficult.

Being abroad and not being much in contact with the UK I only had a very vague idea about who this person was and what they were famous for.

I am also quite nosy and so decided to read it.

I almost didn't bother finishing it, because I'd pretty much got the gist half-way through, but I did, and it certainly makes you think.

It also made me go and look up more information to find out how much was "true" and how much was glossed over - particularly the health bits.

And I would agree with loler that it really struck home about the children and how hard it would be for them AND their mother, knowing she couldn't look after them anymore.
