I really enjoyed it. I knew nothing about it/the topic when I started it, just that people seemed to like it (and I tend to NEED to read things before films come out )

I felt I learned a lot, even though it was fiction iyswim.

No-one chatting?

I love this book, I'd read it before though, probably around 10 years back (makes me feel very old suddenly!). You get totally swept up in an entirely different world.

Not seen the film yet, but I do own it, so no excuse. I've just never got round to it, and the reviews weren't really good - it couldn't live up to the book.

See, not talking to yourself anymore .

Ooh I saw the film not long after the book - I was sooooooooooooo disappointed. It was visually stunning, but lost the book completely

We've lost track of whose book we're reading, so the plan is to put the book's initials in the thread. That way you still don't find out what the next books are, but you can check the various threads to work out who the book came from!

Mine is fairly obvious though, what with having written "flamesparrow" in the cover

I read this a while ago and it was a completely absorbing read. At the time it was first published it was the first of it's kind (as I recall) and it was epic and exotic and beautiful.

I loved the central characters and could imagine the conflicts between the girls. I wasn't always comfortable with the male characters in the book. It was hard to imagine them in a modern, westernised environment and though there were elements of respect and love in some cases it never balanced with the fear and subjugation involved in these relationships.

I enjoyed the movie, but it wasn't as good as the book imo. It was lavish, but it still didn't match up to the pictures in my head. Perhaps my imagination was a bit too vivid!

An excellent book
