I have chosen this book as I was hooked from the minute I started reading it and have since read every title this author has published.
The author has a very clever way of getting you in a tight grip and doesn't let go until the very last page!!!!!
I was introduced to this author through a free book I received through my magazine subscription. I must admit I was disappointed when it landed on my doormat as I would have prefered the other title (A chick lit book) but boy, how wrong was I to be disappointed!!!!
I would never in a million years have chosen this genre but this author writes so well and has a knack of writing very very clever stories.
ENJOY

I have finished this now, shall have a think and come back and post comments.

havalina · 21/01/2008 02:59

I'll just post comments now actually seeing as I'm here
MAY BE SPOILERS

Overall the book was very readable, but I have to admit I'm not convinced by Gerritson at all.
I have to preface my comments with the fact I have read crap loads of serial killer/thriller books which may jade me somewhat.

Overall this book didn't really grab me, I found the main character/victim very annoying along with the male detective (why oh why does there always have to be a romantic subplot). I did like the Rizzoli character, she was a departure from the norm.

The story to me was too predictable and straightforward, it was an okish premise but she didn't really do anything interesting with it. There were no "oh yes I see, how did I miss that" or "wow, didn't see that coming"
moments.

I realise this was her first novel in the series, and it does seem a little derivative and unsophisticated. I read Boris Starlings Messiah shortly after this, which reinforced my views.

However she does seem to improve as she goes along, I read her book The Mephisto Club which was much more interesting/gripping.

I hate having to post a negative review, but thought I should be honest (looks forward to floundering with books that are outside my sphere of experience)

jezzemx · 26/01/2008 14:36

Now I'm curious. I'll have to read Boris Starlings Messiah sounds as if it will grip me even more than TG.
I think the reason I liked it was because it was one of the first books of this Genre that I read and I wasn't disappointed.
As for the negative review I think there is a good chance we will all at sometime or other write a review that will not agree with the original poster.
When you think we have 20+ books to get through we surely can't like them all!!!

I'll send it on to you if you like? I enjoyed it. That's why I joined a book circle, to force me to read different books, or I'd stick in my narrow little groove forever

jezzemx · 02/02/2008 14:54

Sorry I have taken a while to reply to your kind offer of sending me Messiah.
Thank you but I have actually reserved it at my local library and I should be receiving it soon. I am really looking forward to reading it. Esp as it has been highly recommended.
I will send your next book club title very soon.

The book arrived yesterday, looking forward to reading it.

BurpyErnie · 07/03/2008 01:18

Finished it. Thought it was ok. Started off nicely and I was bricking myself had to leave the lights on for 2 days when I was asleep. But I was getting the feeling of same old same old towards the end and I just didn't care about the characters (must admit this all stems from when the main female protagonist cooks steak for the new man in her life and suggests that red meat is a a 'mans meal'). Didn't know this was her first novel so all is forgiven.. I will look out for a copy of The Mephisto Club and Boris Starlings Messiah thanks for the tips!

I've received this book, and already completed it (I've read it before and loved it).

Really enjoy all her books, and also just finished her most recent one!

thegrowlygus · 16/06/2008 07:05

Well I enjoyed it a lot, but I appreciate what others are saying. As murders go it was fairly 'straight forward'. - although how he was finding his victims was rather clever. I liked all the medical bits (being medical myself I found it very accurate but then Tess G is an ex-medic isn't she? - ir have I dreamt that?)

Not a patch on early Patricia Cornwell, and I really didn't like the romantic sub-plot either. It really didn't seem necessary (was actually hoping that she got together with her surgeon partner by the end!) Although they did have their wedding reception in a hotel I have stayed in!

I've just finished the Dexter novel too, and that was very good, and slightly similar - in that you get to read what the murderer is thinking.

ellceeell · 25/07/2008 08:56

I wasn't sure about this at all. It isn't the sort of book I would usually read - but that's why I joined this book circle . I'm not happy with the premise of rape victims being damaged goods and there were a couple of times that the author seemed to be saying that, rather than one of the characters. It was a gripping read, though, but it left me feeling a bit .... so what?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 18/09/2008 20:34

I read this quickly and although a bit gruesome it was what i call a 'light read' (soemthing that doesn't take a huge number of braincells to read and can be done quickly), it was an interesting read, the method of murder was original I won't be rushing out to buy any of her books but if I came across them for free or cheap or library then would read some more.

MrsWeasley · 15/10/2008 22:16

Not my usual type of book but I was gripped from beginning to end.

I loved the characters and got really engrossed in trying to predict who the Surgeon was.

Thanks you
