I have to confess I did not finish this book Blush

I found it quite hard going at times and it did not seem to flow so kept picking it up and putting it down etc.

I was only about 30pages away from finishing it though, so it was a pity I didn't really Blush

I am glad I read (most) of it and some of it was really interesting but then I would find large chunks of it harder to get through iyswim.

I found this book compelling at times and an eye opener. It shows a side of Pakistan most of us are unaware of. I agree that it is hard going at times in the middle section, sometimes I would read only one page before putting it down again, (that might be more to do with an energetic almost-toddler-demon Grin), but actually it picks up again toward the end when Dr Greg is in Afghanistan.

I think perhaps it could have lost about 50 pages and not been the worse for it, otherwise, an interesting read.

This one was not really my cup of tea, if you'll pardon the pun! It was an eye opener but I struggled with it I'm afraid.

I'm feeling bad for picking something a bit too heavy now! I should confess that I didn't pick it for high quality literary merit but because a member of the extended family moved with his family to work in Pakistan and I realised how little I knew about it. This was a book someone suggested and as Pashaelina said, it opened my eyes to stuff we never hear in the news, so I wondered if other people might find some of it interesting. Hope it's not too much of a grind...

It's nice to step outside the comfort zone I think. So far I have only read one book I would have picked myself, but mostly enjoyed the books anyway.

I really wanted to enjoy this book as I'd heard about Mortensen and was previously involved in some charity work overseas, but could not get into it. Not sure why, it just felt very 'dense' somehow. Life is busy at the moment, though and I needed a light read.
If I owned the book, I would certainly put it aside and come back to it another time, probably a couple of chapters at a time. If I see a secondhand copy I'll get one to keep.
Good recommendation, tigger, which is what the swap is all about!

Wow, I'm totally the opposite! I loved this book; I thought it was a real page-turner and I finished it in a couple of hours. I've travelled in the Himalaya and central Asia (although not in Pakistan) so I think part of it was that I could really picture everywhere he was travelling and I just found the whole thing fascinating. Definitely my favourite book so far.

I also really enjoyed this book - it is not the sort of thing I would ever have chosen for myself and must admit my heart sank a bit when I saw it but it was very easy to read and so informative but without being overbearingly 'heavy'. Mortensen is truly inspirational and I liked the fact that he and I were born in the same year but he has done so much, in very difficult circumstances, with his life (and I haven't Grin). I was moved to research his fund raising organisation and send a small donation.

Thanks itsatiggerday for such a great read.
