Actually received and read this a while ago so am ashamed that I have only just posted it on. I read it in 3 days and loved it. Fascinating subject especially as based on a true story.

I was a little worried that it might be upsetting as was feeling a little delicate emotionally at the time but its wonderfully written and even tho it is a heart rending subject it is cleverly constructed so that the worst losses are already seeded in your mind so you are prepared. It IS emotional but doesn't over do it. At the end I realised that the point of view is quite a while later in the narrators life so its almost as if she's come to terms with what has happened and is quite pragmatic about it although still wounded.

Its beautifully written, and as the protagonist is from the lower class, at first you wonder how she can be so eloquent, but that is explained perfectly. Also bit of a twist at the end which I loved.

Great book! Thanks Lightshines!

I also loved this book. It was well written, moving and really interesting. As it's based on a true story, it's pretty mindblowing what people must have gone through. Intriguing little details referencing the religious and social environment of the period too, to our contemporary setting it seemed to me an extraordinary mix of belief in the divine mixed with some pretty superstitious stuff and very human focused structures for punishment and retribution.

If anything, I would have liked a little less editing and to get a bit more in the book about life before it all happened, for a little more character development, particularly of people referenced but never actually met in the book. But that's picky, I loved it, thanks Lightshines.

I'm going to send this one on early as I read it fairly recently.

It was a great read, though. Thankyou.

A great read. When this arrived I knew I was going to like it but then put off reading it because I had a traumatic december. Didn't start reading until the end of the month and couldn't send it on without finishing as was loving it. I did sit up and read until the sons had died because I wanted to get through that point but actually, I agere that because ou knew it was going to happen it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Not sure about the ending though but that would be my only quibble.

Have recommended it to people already.

I really loved this book. I loved the setting and the fact it was based on a true event. I thought the author's writing was amazing and a pleasure to read. I was finding it gripping because the story was very well told. I would definitely read more books by the same author.

(I don't usually start every sentence with 'I' but there you go Blush)

I finished this book yesterday and I totally loved it Grin

I thought it was well written, captured the way of life/setting beautifully.

I was not totally convinced by the ending as someone else said and felt it did not gel with the rest of the book iyswim but other than that I would say its one of the best things I have read in ages Smile
