This is a book that I thought I would include just to see what people think. I love it but then, it might end up being a bit of a Marmite-type bit (either love it or hate it).

Yes, it might be something of a kid's book too...

well ....... here goes .....

this book was very different to anything i have ever read before. the reader will be amazed at the beauty, logic and magic of mathematics. the puzzles are cleverly inter-woven into a story of 2 men on their travels. my favourites were the camels and four fours.

you get the feeling that the questions/answers will stay with you long after you have finished reading the book.

the 'Allah is great' started to annoy me a little bit but this is a brilliant book and i am sure everyone will enjoy it as much as i did!

thanks Dysgu a perfect choice Smile

Glad you liked it, aristocat as it is a bit different from anything that went round last time.

I agree that the 'Allah is great' does become tiresome but I think I just skip over those bits!

I just like the way the story is wrapped around all the mathematics in such a way that the maths makes sense - and I always figure that it can be read straight through like a story even if I choose to stop and try to work out the answers myself.

(Have to admit to really struggling with the one that is coming your way next but am going to give it another try this week before sending it your way.)

Hmmm, I have to admit that I found this one a bit hard-going but I am not renowned for my love of mathematics! I wouldn't say I loathed it but I certainly didn't love it and I did feel a bit like "Heard one puzzle about camels, heard 'em all" after a bit - I started off being admittedly a bit fascinated by the puzzles but then lost interest and the narrative around them just wasn't strong enough to hold my interest.

But thanks, Dysgu, certainly interesting (and I still think you are probably a spy Wink)
