Success after MMC?

I found out I had a MMC on friday, foetus stopped at 8 weeks I was meant to be 10. I am booked to have an ERPC tomorrow. I actually feel fine about the whole thing, could all change tomorrow! I have 2 other children so that obviously helps.

I was wondering though whether to try again or stay happy with 2. I know it's early days but how many of you who have had MMC were able to get pregnant again easily and managed to have a successful pregnancy the first time after? And guess just so I have the balance, how many suffered another?

I hope you don't think me intrusive or nosy, I just can't seem to find information anywhere on this.

Sorry to hear that Knackered. I had mmc and became pregnant 6 weeks later and night before ERPC posted pretty much same question as you (under diff name). This time pregnancy resulted in the utterly lovely DS2.

I also felt fine as so many friends had had mc's by then I felt like I knew the drill. Felt weepy when came round from the drugs though and very distant and spaced out for a couple of weeks after. Was also v annoyed at having to go through the whole TTC thing again though!

Look after yourself - found lots of chocolate and trashy magazines was all I was up to for a couple of days.

I had two consecutive mmc's, at 6wks and 9wks

No reasons found

Because I was undergoing fertility treatment at the time, I underwent a whole load of investigations (they wouldn't normally after "only" two...)

3rd and 4th pg's completely normal and full term

knackered it's not based on personal experience , but when I saw the doc today (and found out about my MMC). He said that 60-70% of MMC are due to chromosome abnormalities and the fact that I'd previously had a healthy pregnancy that has resulted in DD suggested that I should be able to concieve and have a healthy baby. Hope that helps. He's calling me tomorrow so i'll ask him a bit more about conceiving after MMC and post tomorrow eve.

I had a MMC last year at 8 weeks, it devastated me but then went on to conceive 6 weeks later with my lovely bubbly DS, I had a period inbetween (some people on here have concieved without a period)

I was told by my Doctor that we could try again when we felt ready and that you don't really have to wait 3 months as some Doctors say. Although they do like you to have a period for dating purposes HTH

I am really sorry knackered. I had a mmc prior to DD (in the October) and concieved again in Jan (we used protection for 2 periods) then got pregnant again with DD.

I recently had another MMC and my consultant told me that a doctor did research on 3000 miscarried babies prior to 12 weeks and found they ALL had chromosomal abnormalities. He said have one period after ERPC, then try again.

Hope this helps!

Sorry to hear about your MMC knackered ((hugs))

Similar to others, I had a m/c in the October with a rather traumatic ERPC, had one period after that and then decided never to ttc again! Then in the January I realised I was late (wasn't regular to begin with!), and did a test and realised I was pg with DD2. I'd had 2 m/c's in the years before this, both at 10 weeks so it was rather stressful to say the least! However, DD2 is now nearly 3 years old and was worth all the heartache.

Look after yourself hun and take it slowly xxx

So sorry to hear about the mmc Knackered76 and hope all goes as well as it can tomorrow.

I had a mmc at roughly 18 weeks which was discovered at 20 weeks scan despite being hospitalised for a few days due to bleeding and a very high temperature. The lady that listened to my tummy said she could hear the heartbeat a couple of times but that the baby was moving so couldn't hear it consistently. Actually she said "Oh, it's moved again. Little sh... devil." Was awful really as I left hospital thinking the baby was alive but scan showed the baby had already died at that point.

Anyway, I had another miscarriage immediately afterwards at 5 weeks but went on to have DS3 with no problems. I had another early miscarriage a couple of months ago but due to having miscarried before and then gone on to have a full term pregnancy I'm not overly worried that I'll never have another baby.

Knackered76 I could have written your post back in May 2008. I had two DSs and then suffered a MMC (I had had an MMC between the two DSs as well). I was devastated. My mum told me to give up. I didn't. We TTC'd for a year. Nothing. We were on the verge of giving up but we didn't. And the result is asleep upstairs having his afternoon nap! There is hope xxx good luck.

knackered76 · 06/07/2010 16:43

Afternoon all.

Well the deed is done! All fine and so far not much bleeding and no pain Was told that we could try again as soon as we wanted. Because it was an early miscarriage I don't need to wait for my body to get back, that's only for later ones.

Reallygrumpy - hope everything has gone well for you today with the consultant. Considering how things have gone so far am really glad I made the decision I did.

Thank you all for your replies. Give's me some hope. I think we'll play it by ear and see what happens.

Glad you're home and well Knackered.

Wishing you all the best.

reallygrumpy · 06/07/2010 22:20

Hi knackered, I'm really glad to hear it went ok today and you're not in pain. I'm booked for an ERPC on Thursday so I'm looking forward to it all being over by the weekend. I've told my manager at work so I'm working from home tomorrow and then taking thurs off which means I don't have to go into the office until next week which is a relief. We've told family and close friends and everyone's been really supportive and we've got people we can call on on thurs to look after DD so DH can come to the hospital. Is there anything specifically I should remember to take with me?

RunDMC · 06/07/2010 22:29

hi knackered glad to hear it all went well and you haven't had too much bleeding and pain. Has definitely reassured me - I'm in tomorrow at lunchtime so hope it is as quick and straightforward.

also wanted to say reallygrumpy I hope it goes smoothly for you on Thursday. I've also taken this week off work (I'm self employed but work mostly with one client) and they have been very understanding.

knackered76 · 06/07/2010 23:01

Fingers crossed for tomorrow RunDMC and on thurs reallygrumpy

The worst bit was the wait . . . take a book/magazine/something to keep you amused! Remember to take some pads of your own just incase. I had post op watery stuff but didn't even need to change the pad for the whole day and not expecting anything tomorrow. I asked for antibiotics to take afterwards, apparently some hospitals don't give them out routinely (although I think my one was going to anyway). I didn't want this to potentially drag on.

Thinking of you both and thank you everyone for the good wishes, quite fab the lot of you
