Will I miscarry??

Hi I desperately need some advice...on Monday I found out I was 6wks PG. It was unplanned but my hubby & I were really pleased & have been very excited! Yesterday I started to get cramps in the lower abdomen...like period pains. In the evening I went to A&E as the pain had not stopped & with this being my first pregnancy, I was a little worried what it could be. They made me do a urine test & when I was doing this in the grotty hospital loo I realised I was bleeding & got in such a panic i dropped half the sample. Saw the gynae doctor & they said its not ectopic as HCG is too high...it was around 10500. My cervix is closed. They sent me home as the bleeding subsided & nobody there to do a scan at the weekend...so Im left in limbo right now. I am still having cramps & there is a little light red blood here & there but I cant see any tissue. The doc said if I miscarry i will see some greyish tissue and there will be a lot more blood. Im just worried...have I miscarried already or is there a chance things are ok if my cervix is closed??

Poor you -that must be so worrying.I think that a closed cervix is a positive sign though. Are you booked in for a scan tomorrow?

Do you have an Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU) near you?

It's common to get cramps at the beginning of a pregnancy where your uterus is expanding, and some women also experience a little bleeding without miscarrying, so nothing is certain yet.

well the hospital say they will call me in the morning to let me know when I can have the scan - but looks like it wont be until Tues/Weds this week.

Im not sure if I have an EPU near me - I found out I was PG on Monday so have been coming to terms with the shock of it all...and now I may lose it. I have been trying to think positive but its so hard to have to wait. I really hope that I can have the scan tomorrow and all is okay. Hopefully i have a tough one in there...

so i went in to see my GP today and he when I told him that I was in pain & bleeding he sat there grinning like the cheshire cat. He said "if you miscarry, you miscarry!". When I asked to go have a scan privately (I have some ins with work) he actually shouted at me telling me it was a total waste of time! I was crying me eyes out at that point but stood strong & insisted he refer me. He did so but was clearly in a strop. I got my scan done literally 1hr later & my baby was there...heartbeat flickering which has given me hope. I know Im still bleeding which is not good but at least I have some reassurance that all is not lost..not yet anyway. I also found out from my scan I have a corpeus luteal cyst on my right ovary AND 3 uterine fibroids...which was news to me! But they dont seem to think they are causing me to bleed. Im not out of trouble but the scan has relaxed me a little now...

Change doctors! He sounds vile.

I've had three MCs and it's not nice at all. It's bloody distressing and miserable, and don't let your doctor say otherwise. If he's not sensitive, find one who is (I did).

Just remember: plenty of people bleed in early pregnancy and it's fine. The early scan is a very reassuring sign.

The best information on this I've found is Leslie Regan's book: www.amazon.com/Miscarriage-What-Every-Woman-Needs/dp/0752837575/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qi d=1277749831&sr=1-1

Good luck, keep your chin up and stay positive.

I bled in early pregnancy and while it's not normal, it's common. Sometimes they know why, sometimes they don't.

The corpus luteum is nothing to worry about. It's supposed to be there. Very basically it's what's left of the follicle when you ovulate. It helps thicken the endometrium, produces progesterone to tell your body it's pregnant. It's essential for a healthy pregnancy and keeps working until the placenta develops at 10 or 11 weeks or so.

The fibroids they will keep an eye on but they aren't necessarily a problem. Lots of women don't realise they have them.

A heartbeat is very good news.

Yes, change GP if you can! My health centre publishes the GPs' areas of interest/specialities and I switched to a young woman with a particular interest in women's health and family planning. The difference between her and my old male GP (special interest - sports injuries) is huge.

Glad to hear about the scan
