Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

When mc starts how long does it take?

I know this is probably impossible to answer.

I started bleeding last night. (I already know that mc is inevitable). Would have been 10/11 weeks if still pregnant. Am bleeding moderately (like the middle of a period). Wee bit crampy, nothing much.

Could this go on for weeks now?

Hi Besom,

so sorry to hear of your mc, Besom. Are you going to see GP/call midwife to get referral to EPU for a scan?

In Jan this year I had a mmc (thought I was 10 weeks, but scan showed baby had stopped at 7). I am still bleeding now (it got lighter in Feb but has been pretty much continuous). But the reason I'm posting is that the nurses at my EPU keep telling me that most women bleed for around 4 weeks with a MC, so really hope this will be the same for you.

Just wanted to post as I wished the EPU had told me that 'conservative management' could mean bleeding for 10 weeks (in retrospect I would've opted for a ERPC instead).

Take care and take it easy x

Thanks charlie - that's very helpful to know. I'm sorry for your loss too. I hope you are ok? To still be bleeding must br emotionally draining.

I am going to discuss things with the medics again.

hi besom

I had a MMC diagnosed at scan 26/2. Started to MC naturally March 4th, very heavy blood loss for 5 hours (literally attached to the loo and shower). Then bled like a period for about 5 days, then a light period for a further 5. Then spotted and light brown discharge for a few more. Stopped totally earlier this week.
I was 11 weeks when MMC diagnosed. They estimated baby died at 9.

Sorry for your loss - hope you are doing ok.

(FWIW had a MMC last year too and had an ERPC, bled for probably a week afterwards, so slightly less than conservative management in my case).

Did you have much pain Jollster?

sorry to hear this besom.

Mine started on a saturday evening, I passed the biggest clot on monday lunchtime (think that was the "main event" as had the scan about 1hr later and there was nothing there) and continued to bleed until about the wednesday morning, less and less. Had a scanty brown period 2w later, lasting about 2ds and periods still haven't quite settled down, 3m on.

Hope that helps.

Besom · 26/03/2010 14:41

Thanks thumbwitch. I'm sorry too.

Hi besom - no, tbh I have had far more painful periods. Some discomfort and more a disconcerting feeling of SO much blood loss. It did all kick off with SORRY TMI some sudden uncomfortable bowel movements and feeling very faint, but in terms of pain it was very manageable. Though I did take some Nurofen Plus after the main bulk of bleeding for a few days just to pre-empt any pain? (Also might be worth getting some large and hugely unattractive pads in, just in case flow gets very heavy?)

How you doing today?

Besom · 26/03/2010 15:50

I'm OK thanks Jollster - slightly more crampy now, but not that bad. They have given me some industrial strength pain killers just in case but I've just taken some paracetomol. I actually feel a bit relieved that something is happening.

I just found out one of my bff's has had her baby no 2 and I burst into tears. I'm extremely happy for them obviously but sad for myself (feel a bit bad for feeling like that.)

besom TOTALLY understand that. A close friend (our DSs are the same age) is 26 weeks pregnant but it is her very last chance for a baby, donor eggs last frozen cycle etc etc.... SO of course am so pleased her pg is working out. But it's normal to feel a bit envious and regret and grieve what you have lost. So don't feel bad...

If it helps I ate lots of pate, forbidden cheese and drank lots of lovely wine in that first week... childish perhaps but it worked for me to go Yah Boo Sucks! Indulge in some treats for you.

Take care x

thumbwitch · 26/03/2010 16:05

s'normal, besom, don't feel bad about it.

If it's any further help, I only had slight cramps and some weirdy weak-contraction-like feelings - didn't need painkillers at all.

Hope you're getting some support at home?
Have an unMNly (((hug))) anyway - I know I needed one at the time.

Besom · 26/03/2010 19:13

thank you both.

dh is going to have some time off next week and I've family around to help.

Will send dh for wine and stinky cheese.

I've just come home from EPU, refered by A&E as I am in my 4th week of bleeding. It will be a month tomorrow since my MC. I have to go back for a scan as they think it hasn't all cleared which is why I'm still bleeding.
Weird thing is, that even though I've bled all month, I felt when I was ovulating, so I've still got a period to come on top of all this blood!
When will I feel normal again and be able to start trying again?

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 27/03/2010 23:13

I miscarried at only 5 weeks. I started bleeding with bad cramps (bit like a heavy, painful period)last Friday & continued to the Sunday morning then just stopped as if someone had just switched off a tap!

Went for a scan yesterday where they confirmed that the lining of my uterus was still thick in places, so imagined that the bleeding would start up again.
Blood tests confirmed that the hcg level had gone back to normal and no further intervention was needed.

Now just waiting for AF to show so we can get back on track with our date planning!

I feel as though I got off very lightly as some of the experiences I've read on here are heart-wrenching!

wannabPG - if you start a thread with your question, people will answer it. Otherwie they might not have noticed it buried in this thread.

I hope you're feeling back to normal soon.
