Anyone gone for longer than 3 months post mc without ovulating?

Was just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks in October which caused me to bleed for nearly 11 weeks. All scans showed no retained products and, since the doctors were not concerned that there was a medical problem, I was at a bit of a loss as to what to do next. I'm not remotely patient, so I decided to put myself back on the pill for a month to try and regulate things and basically stop bleeding so I had a chance to try and conceive again.

Since then I've had two natural periods, both of which were pretty weird, but within the realms of normal in terms of cycle length. The annoying thing is that, whilst I'm having gaps between the bleeding now, I don't appear to be ovulating. This is the third month (actually the 5th month since the mc) and I'm seeing no signs of fertility whatsoever, despite spending lots of pennies to pay for my 2/3 (occasionally 4 if I'm having a really obsessive day) OPKs per day. I know that OPKs don't work for all women, but they always worked for me prior to the mc. I'm also charting, which would suggest nothing is happening.

It has been advised that I go on provera for 3 months, but I'm really reluctant to go another 3 months with enforced infertility if there is the slightest chance that I might ovulate next month. Anyone had a similar experience? I haven't read about anyone going longer than 3 months after a miscarriage without getting back to normal, but I'm sure there are plenty of people in the same boat.

I would say before going on provera, have your hormone levels checked out - progesterone and prolactin. I have suffered from raised prolactin, which inhibits ovulation and an mess with your cycle. Very easy to treat with medication. I would say push for these tests.

Thanks sh77 I will go back to my GP. Is it just a simple blood test, or should I expect to be a guinea pig again?

How are you these days? Well, I hope. x

Hi Tads

These are simple blood tests.

I am feeling totally shite. One year anniversary of my daughter's death coming up. Had MC in the same year and so all in all 2009 was a bad year. Hoping for good things thus year.

Thanks for that. I'm tired of being prodded and poked!

I'm really, really sorry to hear that. Life really sucks sometimes and the shit always seems to happen to all the wrong people. I wish you nothing but the best for this year. The only possible way is up now. xx
