Hello,

I am a Medical Anthropology student from University College London looking into miscarriage and pregnancy loss.

WHAT IS THIS PROJECT ABOUT?
I would like to write about women's experiences of losing a pregnancy, focussing particularly on their coping mechanisms and grieving process. This is an undergraduate degree project so it is quite small.

HOW?
I am looking for women who would be willing to share their personal accounts of pregnancy loss with me. This can either be done in written form (e.g: a journal entry) or, if you live in or around London, we could meet.

CONFIDENTIALITY
All the information I collect will be securely stored for the duration of the project.
Any information I use in my write-up will be anonymised (unless you would like your proper name to be used).

INTERESTED?FURTHER QUESTIONS? CONCERNS? MORE INFORMATION?
If you are interested or wish to contact me for more information, you can email me on
[email protected] or post a message on this thread.

I hope to hear from you soon!

Yveline

Hi

Another student posted something similar 2 weeks ago - you might want to read the responses.

Hello sh77,

Thank you for pointing out those messages. I hope my answers address the issues raised previously.

"How is your work going to raise awareness given that it is a project? You haven't really made a case for how your work is going to help these women"

Unfortunately I cannot claim that this project is going to raise awareness of miscarriage unless it gets published, but the chances of that are small. Realistically, the only help I can offer is to listen. From the experience I have, I understand that some women find that simply being able to talk to someone helps very much.

"you are asking for way too much personal information"

I realise that this is a very sensitive topic so would not ask and would not expect you to answer any questions that you are uncomfortable with.

"Might be better for you to approach people who know and trust you. I also wonder where all this personal information may end up"

I have done this but was hoping to be able to talk to more people.
The information collected will be stored on my computer or on paper for the duration of the project and then deleted once the project is finished. It will not be uploaded onto the internet, or shared with third parties.

On a final note, I would like to tell you a bit more about myself. I am in my twenties and normally study medicine. However, I have taken a year out to study medical anthropology and will be returning to my medical studies next year (I have two years left).

Thanks again for pointing out these concerns to me sh77. I hope I have answered your questions.

Hi Yveline

Thanks for answering these concerns. I can see the benefits of your project, whereas not so much the other one.

I have suffered both a neonatal loss and MC.

I work as a medical statistician and so I understand the importance of research.

I will give it more thought and will possibly participate. I am based in Central London but not for the next 3 weeks. What is your deadline?

Hello,

Thank you for your interest, I am happy to hear that you will consider my project.

I would like to have all my data collection completed by the 18th of April.

I hope to hear from you soon!

Yveline
