1st period 9 weeks after ERPC

Hi ladies

Just thought I would give an update on my situation. 9 weeks ago I had an ERPC. I was expecting period to arrive after 6 weeks but nothing. At 8 weeks, started to get worried about retained tissue and so had a scan, which showed all was clear and lining was 6mm. At 9 weeks (yesterday) I started getting contraction type pains for about an hour but no blood. I was Selfridges and started crying as I thought something was wrong (my little daughter passed away in April and I had the MC in Nov and so I just expect things to screw up). Went back home and massaged my tummy and felt like something passed. Went to the loo and it was blood (no clots). Never been happier to see my period return :0) From the forums, it seems most women get their periods after 4-6 weeks.

In a way, it has been good for me as I have had 2 months for my body to get back to normal and for me to build my strength again.

For those waiting for their periods this long, do have a scan to confirm that their is no retained tissue and the lining is thickening.

I hope never to go through this again but would def consider natural route next time. Since I started spotting, feels like everything has been a big waiting game - scan results, HCG tests, period.

For those who are in the sad position of having to read this/go through similar, just want to say that this forum has been amazingly supportive.

Hi Sh77

I think we've talked before - I had a MMC in October. Glad to hear your periods have returned. I had to wait 9 weeks for mine too this time and had my second since the MC a couple of weeks ago.

Good luck to the future x

MiniMarmite · 26/01/2010 20:32

for the future I mean!

Thanks Mini. I hope all goes well for you.

Hi sh77. Just replied to a post you kindly left on a thread I started and now just read your thread.

I just wanted to say am so sorry for your losses. I can't imagine what pain you've been through but I'm sending you all my best wishes for the future. x

Hi sh77. Really pleased to hear that. I am currently waiting for my period almost 4 months after my miscarriage, but had to start the clock again as I didn't stop bleeding for about 2 months after it. Scans have shown that all is okay, so I guess I'll just keep plodding on.

Funnily enough, I took the natural route and have been thinking I'd demand an ERPC if this ever happened to me again. Sounds like there is no easy route. Some of us just take longer to get back to normal however we choose to manage it, but it's good to know it will eventually happen and so glad you're feeling stronger. Things can only get better. x

Thanks Boo and Tads for our kind messages.

Tads have you thought about accupuncture to help things along? Also Evening Primrose Oil is good for regulating hormones. Gosh 2 months is a long to bleed. I think this is one reason I didn't go down the natural route. No easy answer. I really hope your period returns soon. It doesn't mean that you are not ovulating though if are TTC.

Were you offered any hormone tests?

sh77, glad to hear that your body is starting to settle down, especially after everything you have been through. Hope things work out for you next time round.

I had a MMC then ERPC mid December and thought I had my first period about 10 days ago - which was pretty light and short. However, since then it stops then a few days later I bleed again. Just happened again an hour ago after no bleeding since Sunday. No idea what this means, sure it can't be a good sign in terms of building up lining so feeling a bit sorry for myself. Like you though, have never been so relieved to see a period!

Thanks Moo. Sorry for your loss. Do you think it could be retained tissue? It is probably just a weird period as the lining is thinner than normal because of the ERPC. Are you having any pain or temp?

I feel like the MC has been harder on my body than full term pregnancy and delivery. My body returned to normal pretty quickly afterwards despite the trauma.

Hi again - no idea what's going on. After ERPC only bled for 2 days then nothing for 5 weeks. I was so relieved to think I was having a period that to have bleeding come back every few days just feels like a set back. No pain or temp, so that's good.

We had hoped to try again in Feb but I am terrified that this on/ off bleeding means there won't be sufficient lining and will just lead to more heartache if I did get pg. So now unsure whether to wait another month to be safe. Boo hoo!

I'm doing a wee bit of wallowing today anyway. Friend had her baby yesterday, another close friend due when I would have been in the summer had pregnancy continued and all around me at work more pregnant women or bringing in babies to office. Someone asked me at work today if my friend having a baby made me feel broody and would I ever have another (have beautiful DD almost 3yrs old) and it was all I could do not to weep and wail in the middle of the office!

Moo I know it must be hard surrounded by pregnant women. I have been pretty lucky not to be in that position as I have been travelling and finshing off my thesis.

I would say to be cautious if you are not convinced your lining has thickened. My doc said to have 2 periods to let lining thicken. The one I just had was normal, no old blood or clots but was lighter than normal and so I may well wait another 2/3 cycles although I so want to have another baby.

I am going to start taking agnus castus and red raspberry leaf tablets. The first regulates hormones and the second tones the uterus. Google them.

I asked at the hospital if you should wait 2 periods or 2 months, since my periods can be erratic. The doc said 2 months and I could have understood better the logic in 2 cycles.

I will check out those supplements and have a think. Desperate to get cracking but not at any expense.

Good your period was normal - the more I think about it, mine wasn't. Old blood first, followed by normal bleed for a few days and now more bleeds ever couple of days. Mmmmhh.......
