hi

so sorry to hear about your daughter

i have had 3 early MCs all before 6 weeks in the past 2 years of ttc and while they were a few days apart in gestation they were all caused by the same combination of factors. i have an un deractive thyroid and while it was undiagnosed and subsequently uncontrolled, it caused me to have what is called implantation defect. this is where the fertilised egg fails to implant properly and then is lost i was also then diagnosed with a form of anti-phospholipid syndrome(APS) called lupus anticoagulant, which causes MC to happen in 75% of any pregnancy i manage. this is somewhat alleviated by asprin therapy but i have to get pregnant first and make it to 6 weeks before the consultant unit will see me to start treatment

my DD for my last MC is xmas eve

Sorry for your daughter's losses and what you are going thru with your DD - my mum's been a fantastic pillar of strength to me, always, and even more so over the last 5 years (have just got off the phone with her)

Panda and Juliet, just for info... - my consultant gave me a script for 75mg aspirin after LMC and EMC and said to take when TTC - I know we're all different but could you ask your consultant about this? (He only gave me the script so that the pharmacist would sell the aspirin to me - about 99p a pot) - you might need a different dose etc (and also low molecular weight heparin with APS) BUT might be worth an ask as my consultant said "it might not do any good, but it won't do any harm" IYSWIM.

Was v.lucky and got thru whole 9 months the next time, but not so lucky this time when trying to make the full 9 - only got to 18 wks again

These RCOG guidelines MAY be of help, when looking for causes / etc. They can be quite emotional reading, but are the patient information leaflets and the MC Assoc leaflet can be helpful.

Recurrent MC Investigation Guidelines

MC Information

MC Association leaflet

Hope this is a help. Good luck to all. xx

thanks juliett2 i have bought the dose i need from the chemist just in case i ever get another bfp (26 cycles and counting) so i can start them straight away. this isnt recommended by the consultant BTW but i feel it is the only way to be absolutely sure i did everything in my control to help my bean stick.

i hope your DD isnt suffering too much how old is she?? i had a late MC when i was just turned 20 and it was almost certainly caused by my APS condition. i hope she manages to get some answers from the consultant xx i was told on my follow up appointment what was up and had to wait about 3 months for that i hope she gets her BFP soon and this one sticks

Sorry to hear about your daughter's losses. It definitely sounds like some issue around the time of implantation. I've also had a number of mc's at around the same time and these were due to having fibroids on my uterus.

Does your dd have any other symptoms (heavy/painful periods etc. ?). If it is found to be fibroids, there are lots of options available for control/treatment. The good news is that I do have a dd who is 2.6 and am 36 weeks pg with dc2

I really hope it happens for her soon

Hi Juliet

Mums are great - I couldn't have got through everything without mine. She lucky to have you.

I am really sorry for what your daughte has been through. It must have caused you a lot of pain also. I agree that she should read the RCOG guidlines because she will know what to ask for. I unserstand the NHS does level 1 and level 2 tests, the latter being more in depth I guess.

I would say she should have her uterus examined to make sure there are no physical reasons and also ask for immune and clotting tests.

Another thing to think about is for her and her partner to have karyotyping blood tests, which examine whether there are any genetic incompatibilities.

Also, as she has 3 MCs, I reckon she will be eligible to see a MC specialist. If you take a look at the recurrnet MC thread (very recent), a few women have had private tests, which speeds thing up from the constant NHS waiting. This may be an option.

Please don't lose hope. As they have happened at the same time, there is obviously a cause and a good chance that it can be identified. There is a lot of useful info on this board and the women on her are an absolutely wonderful source of support.

juliet2 very heavy and painful periods are often a symptom of polycystic ovaries, which are linked to miscarriage. has this been ruled out by your daughter's dotor? if not it is worth investigating. as she is only 18 there is LOADS of hope that she will have the children she so desperately wants. the good thing is she is getting pregnant so she obviously doesn't have problems conceiving. i hope the appointment with the specialist is helpful.

hi kissmummy, thanks for your reply.they haven't tested her for anything yet but we will mention it 2morrow wen we go to hospital
