For how long did you bleed post ERPC?

I had a D&C on the morning of Thursday 29th Oct (17 days ago) but I am still bleeding. Not heavily and it hasn't been heavy (or peroid-like) since just after the op. The bleeding is slow and dark burgundy/indigo/odd+old (never red). I had expected that it would've slowed to slight spotting by now but it is still more than spotting. I don't need to change my (thinnish) pad more than twice per day and I wear one at night too.

For how long did anybody else bleed, post-op?

How much longer should I wait before calling the gynae. ward?

Hi - I've had 5, and they've varied. I think it depends on all sorts of things like how far gone you were, what there was to remove, how thorough the surgeon was, whether or not you had any prior help (a pessary to start things off) and so on. With my first I bled a little to start with, then a lot after about 5 days, then it tailed off after a further 2 weeks. It was darkish, suggesting it was "old" blood. The next one was similar, then the 3rd was like having a miscarriage in itself ( I even called NHS direct for a home visit as I was having contractions, and was worried I was bleeding too much and was passing huge clots). However, the last two have been done after having a pessary (sorry for terminology, but it was the abortion pill)and I've hardly beld at all after either of them. Much less traumatic. I'd seek advice if you're concerned because infection is the concern. Sorry to be graphic, but if it doesn't smell offensive and you're not in any pain or have a high temp, then you're probaby ok. It sounds quite normal to me. Take it easy and maybe if you're still bleeding after a full 3 weeks then get some advice.

aliwally, many thanks for your reply and sorry to hear of your 5 losses, so sad. I've had 4 mcs now, terrible. Interesting to hear about the pessary resulting in less blood loss. Thanks for your advice - I will give it until the end of this coming week and then call the ward. I don't have any signs of an infection so hopefully the bleeding will tail off and STOP! in the next few days.

good plan - sounds like a sensible idea. If it's of any help, I've just had lunch today with a friend who had 13 miscarriages, and her 11 year old son was there (her 14th preg) - she's good proof that we can get there. All the best to you - wouldn't we all "lovetoknow" ... x

OMG your poor friend, I cannot imagine 13 mc it is too awful to contemplate. But incredible that she kept trying and did not give up and what a result eh! Amazing.
