I think the specialist that my friend saw said it was the thin womb lining was why the foetus would struggle to get passed a certain point, perhaps just not enough nourishment to sustain?

I suppose my view would be that what is the cost of a few appointments in the grand scheme of things, to know that you did everything you could even if you don't get the result you want in the long run.

sunburntats · 31/10/2009 20:59

thats the thing pacific, it really isnt good that i have all of the symptoms.
I always have strong symptoms, but always mc.

Blighted ovum is what always happens to me, sac but no baby, hormones, double, triple in fact but it means nothing, nothing at all.

I think that i have had all of the bloods that you describe, and each came back as normal. I think that is why they say that its just bad luck. It cant be though can it, no one has mc after mc for no reason do they?
am I BU about that?

Thank you for your kind words, its noce to moan/chat about it as i say, i dont tell any one in rl, so have o one but dh to speak to about it all.

i think that i agree carGirl, i will make some enquiries to see a specialist and will pay.
Again, during scans i am told that the lining of my uterus is thickened suffuciently, that is why i have to keep going back after the loss, as the lining is still thickened.

All very mysterious, i am a medical mystery hehehe

found this by googling quickly

"am so sorry for your loss Julia. I had two blighted ovums, one in March 2005, and one in June 2005. I started on baby aspirin, Premesis prenatal vitamins, and extra folic acid right after that. I am now 7w5d pregnant and on 2/16 we had an u/s showing sac, yolk sac, and baby. We even heard the heartbeat. The only advice from my doc was to wait 6 months. Hope all goes well for you."

never considered baby asprin, thought it was more to do with clotting problems in early pregnancy.

Take vits and of course folic acid (been on that stuff for about 8 years!!!)

seems that the clomid is to due with increasing your progesterone level?

sunburntats · 31/10/2009 21:12

yes, day 21 progesterone was 11, my pal who has PCOS had progesterone on day 21 of 32! so im even crapper than her and hse knows why hers is low!

Any hoo, i got the positive, just need to wait and keep well now.

You never know.
Thanks for your encouragement and for the links, its very kind of you to stick with a moaning old tart on a Saturday night!

Clomid helps ovulation, low pregesteron 7 days before a period suggests no ovulation took place.
Yes, BabyAspirin is used in certain clotting/antibody disorders, but sometimes also gets recommended to try "just in case". I had one successful pregnancy on Aspirin, and one MCs, so not sure it had anything to do with Aspirin.

Some IVF clinics use progesterone pessaries after embryo transfer, although the evidence that that makes much difference is controversal.

You should really go and get further advice from a recurring MC specialist, whether NHS or privately. Again, as CarGirl said, even just so you feel you have all the info and are not quite so abandonnned with your losses.

CarGirl · 31/10/2009 21:14

start popping the progesterone pills & aspirin!

onemoretimetoday · 31/10/2009 21:25

Have you ever been prescribed cyclogest? I could have written your story, 5 early m/c all due to progesterone levels between 7 and 26. My DD was conceived on clomid plus 400mg of progesterone 2x a day. I am now 17 weeks today, conceived naturally and starting cyclogest at 12DPO. There is absolutely NO WAY on this earth I would still be pg if it weren't for cyclogest. It's rarely prescribed on the NHS but you absolutely need to try it if you haven't done so already. If you are doing this all NHS I strongly advise that you put together your history and pay for a one off private appointment with someone like Yehudi Gordon, he's in London and see if they can offer you something different to the treatment you're getting.

annie51 · 01/11/2009 17:57

Know how you feel I've also had 6 the last 3 weeks ago, have had all the tests done and no explanation either but I also don't think it's Bad Luck. Once maybe but not so many times.

Dozer · 01/11/2009 19:31

Sunburntats, so sorry for your losses. I have had three miscarriages at a similar stage with lots of pregnancy symptoms etc and have low progesterone. Had some tests on the NHS but they wouldn't test hormones, and I found the specialist dismissive ("just try again" kind of line).

Went private, it cost £200 for the first appointment, then around £800 on tests (though if you only need blood tests and have already had some on the NHS it would be cheaper), and £150 for a follow-up appointment (this was in London). They found that too soon after ovulation the "corpus luteum" on my ovaries (which produces progesterone) was breaking down, so there wouldn't be enough to support a pregnancy. Am now taking cyclogest for the second part of my cycle each month (prescribed on the NHS by my GP) and trying to conceive. Hopeful but still scared.

There are certain places in the UK NHS with good reputations, including Liverpool Women's Hospital and St Mary's in London. There is also a clinical trial in Liverpool being run by Dr Quenby on "natural killer cells"; and a progesterone supplements trial in various locations called the "PROMISE" trial. Info on both on the Miscarriage Association website.

Best wishes
