Not ovulating after MMC?

Hi Ladies, wondering if any of you have had a similar experience. I found out about my mmc at 12w scan. Opted for medical management (Cytotec), and miscarried immediately.

First cycle returned at about 5 1/2w and have had normal and regular AF since but I have not ovulated. Have been ttc just over a year and OPKs always worked prior to mc with ov at cd 14 or 15 - now NOTHING 4 mos. later.

Called the doc, she said we'll try progesterone cream at onset of next cycle. I'm just worried something's wrong. Has anyone had a similar experience - ovulating normally then BAM suddenly stopping? Also, I'm nearly 34 and am starting to feel impatient with 35 creeping up on me!

There are some blood tests that your doc should be able to offer you to make sure that progesterone and oestrogen levels are looking normal, which happen on day 21 of a 28 day cycle. Have you had these done?

Is there any possibility that you are ovulating later than before?

Hi Zayja

How are you doing? Frustrated I guess! I was interested to read your post as I have been wondering what's going on with my cycle... I'm on CD20 and have had all the ovulation signs, but my temperature has plummeted to an all-time low. We can't TTC this month due to post-swine flu complications (grrrr!), but still fervently monitoring my cycle and I'm a bit concerned. I had a little bleeding yesterday, which I've read can be a common sign just prior to ovulation - never happened before MC. I've also had incredibly sharp pain which I am assuming is ovulation pain - also can be normal, also not had before. Guess MC can really mess things up. My cycle is so long - 32 to 34 days, and ovulation usually happens around CD18. Just makes all the waiting that much more longer!

Do you know for sure that you're not ovulating? Are you charting (temperature, cervical mucous, etc.)? Might be worth checking for sure - maybe a scan just prior to ovulation to see if there's a follicle?

I am looking at Clearblue Fertility Monitors on ebay, in the hopes I will have a slightly clearer idea of what's going on.

Fingers crossed for you. It's such a hard time isn't it - and as if an MC isn't bad enough, we then have to have all these possible complications!

Keep us posted on how it goes.

xx

Hi pecanpie and temm, thanks so much for responding. I'm doing alright temm, but frustrated and worried too. Yes, I think mc really screws things up!!! I do wish (and had kind of assumed) things would get back to normal and I'd be on my way ttc!

I have read about the test pecanpie, and want to request one, but my doctor didn't offer it. My OB/GYN has recommended progesterone pills for me to take cd 1-10. She said it's like a "reset" button for your cycle. Since our conversation, I've been researching on it, and it seems to me that prog is normally used in women that don't menstruate - but my cycle's regular. I've seen lots of sketchy info. on this, women saying they get a second short period after their first and then are confused about OV.
Is it too forward to ask for a cd21 prog test? I'm on cd17 now so beginning of next week would be good timing. Maybe I'll call the doctor - again!

I'm also wondering if I might be ovulating earlier or later than before the mc, but I have been taking my BBT I haven't had a temp surge either. I'm on cd17 and my temp was 96.8 this morn. I haven't had one above 97.1 yet. Of course I started internet researching, and found that is a symptom for people with hypothyroidism. Now I'm worried something's wrong with me, my thyroid, pituitary gland, eggs, ovaries, uterus etc. and I won't get PG.

Anyway, sorry to ramble on about this - I'm in a peculiar situation and need all the input I can get. Do I get a second opinion, ask for blood tests before taking prog, seek out a specialist or just trust my doc (she did go to school for this after all)?

Thanks gals for the advice and support, and I'll keep you posted.

BTW, have just realized temps are not the same across the pond so my BBT is consistently around 36 - 36.2

I realise this message is quite old now, but would be grateful if you could let me know how you got on, as I'm having exactly the same problem! Any advice would be most welcome as the doctors have just told me to wait and see!
