Low progesterone causing a miscarriage?

I posted this in conception but I wondered if anyone on here had any thoughts....

I had some 21 day bloods done last week to check progesterone levels after 2 mcs (I've had some slight spotting before af, but not a lot). I get those results on thursday when I see the doc. However, if I got a bfp before then, would that pregnancy have a chance if it turned out I did have low progesterone levels? How early do you have to start taking progesterone supplements to prevent a miscarriage?

Hello,
i've taken progesterone before but sadly still mc'd. You could always ask your gp to prescribe you some cyclogest (progesterone) just in case the levels are low. I started taking them as soon a i go a bfp to help thicken the lining of the womb to help the embryo implant. Goodluck with everything.

Thanks for that Sue. I have no idea what really caused my previous mcs, but I'm hoping I'll get a bfp this week and I'm worrying that if the low progesterone was the cause then it might mean a third mc for me. Is it wrong to take progesterone supplements if you don't actually have low levels, just in case iyswim? If I test tomorrow and it's a bfp, and I'm not seeing the doc until Thursday, I'm worried I may have left it too late.

Can you not get in today to see any gp and just ask for the prescription just in case? I didn't have low progetserone but some consultants use it just as an extra to try to help maintain a pregnancy, dont think they do any harm but can prolong a mc if it's gonna happen so to speak.
Best wishes

I'm at work today so can't get away (on shift until 11pm). I haven't even tested yet, will buy a test at lunchtime but I'm stupidly superstitious about testing before I get to cd32 which is Wednesday. I'm off tomorrow so I could go to the docs and get the prescription as you say. I suppose I have to ignore my superstitions and test so at least I'll know if I'm pg or not.

Phew, rang up the doctors surgery on the offchance the results were in early and they were. All the receptionist was able to tell me was that they were all normal and that no further action was required. So I guess that means my progesterone levels must be ok.

I've bought some tests and I'm going to do a test in a couple of days, if it's a bfp then I'll go back to the docs to see if he wants to put me on progesterone to help maintain this pregnancy or if he thinks that wouldn't be the best course of action for me. Thanks for your advice Sue.

I had 2 m/c and was on progesterone supplements during both pregnancies (was never tested, I think my gynae just prescribed them as a precaution and to make me feel as if I was doing something)

When I got pregnant the third time I did not bother taking them as I felt they were just delaying the inevitable (and I was sick as a dog and felt pregnant) everything went well with that pregnancy and the subsequent one.

Good luck

That's so good to hear MmeLindt. If I am pg (still got those tests burning a hole in my bag) then perhaps my two mcs were down to age or something else, which makes me more hopeful, as chances are, if it's age related eventually I'm bound to get one egg that doesn't need a zimmer frame
