Still bleeding after 4 weeks

Hi, I hope you don't mind me posting but I'm after some reassurance.

I started miscarrying just over 4 weeks ago. I passed quite a lot tissue (I was 10 weeks when I started m/c) and the scan I had showed there was a small amount of tissue left. I had another episode of heavy bleeding and passing tissue 2 weeks in.

I'm still bleeding now. It's not particularly heavy but more than spotting and it's bright red.

I know I could go back to my doctor and arrange another scan but I suspect that everything is ok and it's just taking a long time to end. Has anyone experienced bleeding for such a long time?

Thanks in advance.

(PS. I'm on a course of antibiotics for a suspected infection and still testing positive).

Sorry for your loss Marmot. If you are still testing positive you really should go back to your doctor or EPU as the likely cause is a piece of tissue not being released which apparently makes you keep producing HCG hence the positive tests.

Perhaps a scan or at leats a blood test to check HCG levels are dropping would be a good idea.

Thanks wasabipeanut. I just gave the Miscarriage Association a call. I know that it's possible that I have some retained tissue causing the HCG levels to remain. They said often the hospital are happy to leave people to pass them on their own.

I know from the episodes that I've already had that if something is left it is only small. Does anyone know if they could give tablets to help me pass anything rather than have surgery?

I think maybe I'm being a bit strange about it but I really want to avoid going back to the hospital. Every time I've been back or called I've been told what's happening is normal and to just keep monitoring things. I'm not in pain, the bleeding isn't heavy so they really don't seem concerned.

I guess I want the impossible. I want reassurance that it's ok not to go back and that things will end on their own. Sorry for sounding so ungrateful .

I'm pretty sure they won't give you the tablets without seeing you. They are strong and I have a feeling they would want to scan you first to check.

I'm sorry, and I do understand why you don't want to go in again but I think you should at least give them a call?

It may well resolve over time but its a case of - how long are you prepared to wait?

I bled for ages, about 8 weeks I think. I went back to hospital for a routine scan and they said it was OK just to wait and it would end naturally. But if you still have lots of tissue retained they sometimes suggest a D&C. I really didn't want this, I think if you are scared of the op, they will let you 'wait' longer if you are happy to do so. I expect it will sort itself out, I really hope so anyway. It did for me, if that is any reassurance. Take care.

I've just been on the phone to them and as you said MrsSB they are happy for me to let it happen on it's own.

The provisos are that I have to go back if I show any signs of infection or if I just get fed up of it all. Like you say wasabipeanut, it is a case of how long am I prepared to wait.

Sorry to confuse as well, I know they won't give me tablets without seeing me, I just wondered if they ever used tablets rather than surgery for retained tissue. I think I'm just clutching at straws though!

Many thanks for listening to me. I'm aware that I'm being awkward at the moment

If you are happy to wait it out that's good then (as good as these things can ever be)

You're not awkward at all. Hope they have reassured you and the bleeding finishes soon
