early mc question

hi.

I've haD 2 MC before but both were 11+ wks and so was hospitalised.

Mc this week at only 4/5 wks. Question is, do i need to do anything? Will i just assume it is complete and go on as before?

I guess if there is a problem, it would become apparant before too long?

Ok, have probably answered my own question, please feel free to ignore my ramblings.

I'm sorry, I don't have any personal experience, but I didn't want this thread to go unanswered. I'd go to your GP and ask. My SIL went through a very similar thing last year (and had a healthy DS a couple of weeks ago).

I'm so sorry you've been through this.

I'm sorry.

It will almost certainly happen all on its own. It's like a heavier period. If you feel ill/are in pain/the blood smells then you know what to do.

I bled for a couple of days longer than usual and it was heavier but next af turned up 28 days later so it would have been like a late, heavy period if I hadn't known otherwise.

I don't think you need to do anything from a medical perspective. I had a very early mc at 4 1/2 weeks and bled very lightly. My cycle was completely normal the next month.

You may however want to tell your GP what has happened as most health authorities seem willing to investigate when you have had three miscarriages. The tests may or may not turn up a problem. While finding no cause can be frustrating, apparently the future success rate for people in this "unexplained miscarriage" group is better than for people where a problem is identified. Have you read "Miscarriage - what every woman shoudl know" by Lesley Reagan? It's very good.

Sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear this. More then likely you won't need any medical treatment - 4/5 weeks is very early and many women wouldn't even realise they are pregnant at this stage.

You will probably just experience something like a heavier then normal period with clots.

liahgen · 28/12/2008 19:42

thanks ladies.

yes it has been heavier, and much brighter red than normal, more clotty, (sorry tmi) so hopefully everything will just expel naturally.

I do have dc's, this is my 3rd mc but not in successsion, I'm sure it was just natures way. Very upsetting but i understand mother nature works in many ways.

Sorry for everyone who has been through similar, it's never nice or easy. As someone said, we find out we're pg so early these days, years ago, we would have put many of the early mc down to a late period.

thanks for your replies. x

Sorry to hear this liahgen, I think we've spoken before on the ttc boards. I had a mc at 6 weeks in October. I did go to the epu because I wanted to double check there was nothing left, but I think your gp can do hCG tests which will confirm the same thing without the need for a scan. If you have retained products your hCG levels will be raised, whereas after my mc which was completed on one day, my hCG levels were back to normal non pregnant levels three days later.

I hope you're not too down, as you say, sometimes these things just aren't meant to be. It's hard if you've really really wanted this pregnancy, but it's nature's way of dealing with genetic abnomalities.

I'm sure you're right about the whole early pregnancy testing revealing far more miscarriages than before. The funny thing is now that I've had a mc, I think I've had an early one before, back in my 20s. Had a very similar late clotty period. At the time I remember being absolutely paranoid about cervical cancer as a friend of mine had just had a cancer scare and those were exactly the same symptoms, delayed periods, painful and clotty. But it was just the one for me, so I think that it was a mc instead.

Sorry to hear this, hope you are okay.

Tell your GP, even if it prob takes care of itself, he should make sure your hormone is going down with blood tests.

Also, while chances aren't good, my gynae told me that there is all kinds of things that can lead to bleeding with clots, like a large subchorionic bleed. So don't assume its all too late until you know the hormone is down.

i retested with home digital and has definately gone. I knew anyway, just didn't feel real, does that make sense?

so? .. new yaer looming, who knows. Maybe my lovely dh will let me try again.

sorry to everyone going through this. There is light at the end of the tunnel usually, I have 5 healthy dc's.

thanks for all your kind words. x
