anyone else currently going through molar pregnancy follow up?

anyone else been diagnosed with a molar pregnancy and currently going through follow up?

i had a missed miscarriage end of september, have just been referred to sheffield with a partial molar.

i'm now awaiting first blood results. basic urine test showed faint positive, and i seem to have got my period today..although i know this may be a false bleed or the mole shedding. i had a very light bleed after my ERPC at the time i'd have expected a period, but this one is heavier and redder (tmi!) i'm hoping this is all a good sign.

I do find that I get special treatment following mc now - if I say I need a scan, I get a scan - and I get bloodtests etc done to check everything is OK and returning to normal OK. Luckily, 2mc following ds have not had mp return, but its alwasy a worry.

Hi hazeyjane - I think I must be a control freak already as I've been keeping a diary for a while now - absolutely riveting details of urine samples, hcg levels and all that fascinating stuff

ruddynorah - good to hear that you've got positive things to say about Sheffield too. I haven't been in contact with Jan yet, but will be soon as I have a couple of questions for her. Hope your first test results are good

ruddynorah · 16/12/2008 16:12

the bleeding lasted 4 days.

no results yet from original blood test. am about to email jan at sheffield for first urine results.

bizarrly enough my sister's just told me she's had an abnormal smear result is is having treatment tomorrow. hopefully we'll both be fine.

flippin eck that jan is fab!

she just emailed me back. blood result is 3, she says normal is 2 or less. urine she says is borderline ie nearly normal. she says that's good!!!!! so i do think the bleed was a period.

i am flippin delighted . fingers crossed it doesn't go up..

Hi ruddynorah. Glad you're getting looked after well! Am v pleased for you that the results good.

My last result was 2, but no-one over here has told me what's normal and what's not. The one before was 5, and that was 3 months after the ERPC. I presumed 5 was fine but what do I know!

There is a massive difference between here (Belgium) and the UK. Hazeyjane that sounds like a good idea re the diary - but I wouldn't have anything to put in it! All I have are my last two blood results, and the 'certificate' stating the cause of the loss of the baby . Apparently I only have to be monitored for three months over here, but considering they didn't get their acts together until three months after the event that still means I have to wait 6 months in total.

By the way, has anyone read anything about helping to prevent this happening again? I read that diet can help...

ruddynorah · 16/12/2008 21:55

it's all a bit inconclusive isn't it?

fwiw no one has really asked me anything about me to be collating info for research. as there are so few of us you'd think they'd want to ask a lot of questions. but i gather it's not a high priority because it's so curable.

Oh, good stuff, ruddynorah! Has she said how long you'll be in follow-up?

ruddynorah · 18/12/2008 00:57

not yet. i'm rather hopeful we'll go with 6 months from erpc rather than 6 months from normal..though i've missed the 56 day deadline cos no testing was done in that time.

i have another blood test boxing day, which should be nil or at least normal. if it is i think i'll go with the 6 month from erpc thing.

then i have consultant appointment in february which would be 5 months from erpc. she may well give me the all clear then i suppose. who knows, am trying to be positive.

did you see the student doctor who i saw at my diagnosis popped up on your thread?! she's not replied yet to say if it was her or not but i'm fairly sure. i told her i got all my info and links from mumsnet and she should go on for her research.

got a letter from sheffield today, dated 18th december, so just after the first urine sample which says i am all fine and at normal level (though jan said it was 3 ) and it says i can go back on the pill.

so we're going to count 6 months from erpc, end september

Glad things are going ok, ruddynorah.

I have done a couple of bloodtests for research purposes (they said it was because I had had to have 2 different types of chemo to get rid of it, which is an area they're doing more research into)

The only thing I read about preventing it happening again, was to do with increasing animal protein in diet (I stopped being vegetarian, because I will believe anything!). I can't for the life of me remember where I read it though. I think it is also more prevalent amongst asian women.

Hope you all had a great Christmas, and lots and lots of luck and happiness in the New Year.

Habbibu · 29/12/2008 16:13

Oh hurray, rn - so glad you're on the countdown, and time served is being counted! I think anything under 5 counts as normal, tbh.

Habbibu · 05/02/2009 16:21

How are things going, ruddynorah and aniyan? Hope you're both still at zero - you must be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel by now, I hope.

Aniyan · 06/02/2009 16:59

Hi there Habbibu - it's really nice of you to ask how we're doing

I've been on zero for a while now and am down to fortnightly tests - but it still feels like a long way to go.

Not sure if I'm on the 6-months-from-erpc countdown, or the 6-months-from-first-normal-result countdown as I was very close to the cut-off date. I'll be ringing Sheffield soon to make sure which it is.

The earliest I'll be given the all clear is May - plenty of time to get fighting fit before the next attempt (and to enjoy the odd glass of wine ).

Hope you're doing okay, Ruddynorah.

Habbibu · 06/02/2009 19:43

Oh, good stuff. Hope you'll be on monthly tests soon. The last couple of months passed reasonably quickly for me - I started taking folic acid again, to try to get the 3 months pre-conception ideal in! Enjoy all the wine/runny eggs/blue cheese/pate - hope you don't get to enjoy them for too long!

lilacpink · 16/03/2009 22:58

Hi, I have found this thread really helpful,to know I'm not alone, thanks Habbibu.
I had an ERPC mid-Oct and I'm now only due a last (6 month) urine test (first test was blood test too). I searched on here for posts about Molar pregnancy at the time of ERPC but didn't find any and didn't feel confident then to start one.
I felt a bit better as I passed the third test, felt like I was going 'downhill' and this would end. The first three months dragged on. Now I can imagine TTC again, and strangly now if it took awhile to get pregnant again I think I would be calmer than if I had been TTC over the past 5 months. I think the break may have helped my hormones/head/emotions to settle a bit. In the first few months I cried regularly and felt desperate to start again, then was green with jeolousy of other bumps, now I think one day it will happen. Then again, I will worry more if pregnant again. Ironically when I had my scan, and the sonographer looked worried, I said 'is it a molar pregnancy?' she was shocked I guessed. Truth is I have a friend who has had one. Her levels had fluctuated so she had tests for longer. That was a few years ago and she now has two happy healthy children, which gives me lots of hope.
Anyhow, I thought I would post to say I'm another one who has had this, and to share my story.
Best wishes to all for test results!

Hiya i was just searching the net for some answers on molar pregnancy's and came across this web site. i was told on the 11th of march when i went for my 12 wk scan it was a molar pregnancy and since then had a d&c on fri 13th which showed it was a complete molar pregnancy after that i had to get a 2nd d&c on the 23rd of march cause they never removed it all the 1st time round and i ebded up with an infection in my womb. but since then i havnt had any blood test or urine samples 'nothing' i was just wanting to know from anyone else that has went through this how long they had to wait to get their follow up the hospital told me dundee hospital would contact me am just really anxious i want to know wots going on! im getting so fed up nobody will tell me anything i have been treated very bad since the day i had my 12 wk scan can anyone help answer some of my questions?

hazeyjane · 24/04/2009 20:46

Hello sarah09, how are you doing? Have you heard anything from dundee? That sounds a long time to be waiting for follow ups.

Have you had any symptoms since the d&c? (bleeding, pain etc) If you have then contact the hospital.

I was with Charing Cross, who were fantastic, so I'm sad to hear that you have had poor treatment. The Charing Cross website (here), is good, maybe you could contact them with queries about your treatment?

Habbibu · 25/04/2009 21:49

Sarah - ring Trish Sandilands at Ninewells in Dundee - 01382 632748. She is absolutely lovely and will give you all the help she can. I was lucky, in a way in that my mp was diagnosed at Ninewells, so I was straight into the system and didn't have to wait for referral - I'm wondering if this has been the problem, as Trish was super efficient with me. Good luck.

Chellelouise89 · 20/08/2019 20:41

Helloo. Can't find any other threads on here about molar pregnancies so thought I would write on here and see if anyone is going through this at the moment. I have been today told my histology results confirmed I had a molar pregnancy and am being referred to Sheffield.
I also hope everyone from the previous post are all doing well now 🙂 x
