doctor has told her it can take up to 6 months to bleed ... is this true? and is it normal to still feel pregnant? she was 9 weeks when she lost the baby a week ago.

I was 10 weeks when I found out I had a mmc. I felt the same as I had all the way through and for the 2 weeks I had to wait for the 2nd scan to check I had m/c I didn't bleed. I ended up having an erpc after the 2nd scan

Not normal to take 6 months. I very much doubt most doctors would recommend waiting anything like that long before they recommended some kind of intervention. Maybe the doctor meant 6 weeks, which is quite possible. If nothing happens within a week or two, your friend should be offered a small operation called an ERPC to end the pregnancy. Some hosptials also offer "medical management", which means taking some medicine to start the miscarriage process. This would normally take place in hospital.

no, that isn't true at all.

what happened? has she been scanned?

prplmnkfsh · 24/10/2008 12:53

Not at all, I'd have thought a few weeks. It took me two weeks, can take up to 4 I believe but 6 months? that sounds iffy to me. The risk of infection and suchforth! this is why D&C exists!

GordonTheGhoul · 24/10/2008 12:55

God tell her to get a D&C.

omeNofthefleshes · 24/10/2008 12:55

I found out at 15wks that I had a mmc and baby died at around 9wks gestation. I was offered a D+C after a second scan a week later to double check.

I chose to have an ERPC for both of my missed miscarriages (NA - this is when the baby dies, but there is no bleeding - presume this is what your friend is going through)to get that stage over and done with.

The Dr should have explained the options (waiting, medical management or ERPC) to her, and let her choose what she wanted to do

perhaps he meant 6 weeks?

think he must have meant six weeks. i'm sure they would never let you wait six months - there would be a serious risk of infection.
