Have also posted in MC avengers in the vain hope that someone is awake...)

I had a MMC at 11.5 weeks - lost baby at 9.5 weeks back in march and know feel I am losing the pg again...

Does anyone know how things work with Dr Lesley Regan's clinic?? Am now 8.5 weeks pg and convinced I've lost it - pg symptoms have been tailing off and I am desperate to get some info re attending Dr Regan's clinic.. Not sure I can wait to go through a 3rd pregnancy and miscarriage. Have some questions...

  1. can you go privately? (can't actually afford it but but am prepared to borrow it from the bank!) - And how much do appointments and scans etc actually cost?

  2. Would I be able to get a D&C at her clinic and have the tissues analysed...or get it done elsewhere and have the results sent there?

  3. Generally, how long do you usually have to wait for an appointment?

If you guys don't know I don't know who will... I just need to know if this is even a possibility as I know I won't rest until I fix it. Wish I didn't have to go to work tomorrow, I just want this sorted out.

I know that tomorrow theer is a chance that I may start to feel awful with MS again, but my gut feeling just says the baby's died.

Other than loss of pg symptoms is there any other reason why you think you have lost this pg?

Where are you? If you are in London you can probably self refer yourself to your nearest EPU for a scan. link

I know you are worried but I'm not convinced there is any benefit to borrowing lots of money when you can get it for free on the NHS

Have you read her book?

I had 2 miscarriages in a row and I felt the same way as you. I did not think I could go through a 3rd pregnancy only to lose it again.

The Lesley Reagan book puts things into perspective. The odds of you having a healthy 3rd pregnancy are still really high. for most people it is bad luck that they have 2 miscarriages where a lot of people have none. It does not necessarily indicate a problem.

Can you go to an EPU and get an ultrasound so you can know for sure if you are still pregnant. It seems like an awful weight to bear if you don't know for sure.

I hope everything turns out to be fine.

Thanks for the replies. beginning to feel a bit desperate and DH is away.

Basically Blonde I have gone from feeling utterly terrible with MS to feeling pretty like my normal energetic self, and besides that I just have a feeling. In addition I have Endo which carries a greater risk of MC.

I had the same loss of symptoms and knowing feeling last time I miscarried but I ignored it..

Blonde If I go through the NHS I have to wait to MC a 3rd time before any investigations are done and I just don't think I can bear another one. That's the reason to go private.

Horse I read Lesley's book last night which I had squirreled away after the last MC. Pretty informative.

I just hope my GP will refer me to get an ultrasound, I don't mind begging.. I didn't know you could self refer... Will try both. At least then I'll know.

Okay, call your nearest EPU. Here in S London they have an open clinic in the morning and you can just show up and wait to be scanned

Depending on your age/gynae stuff (you mention endo) you may be able to get an NHS referral for investigation after 2 mc

Morning Nauseous,
it must be even more worrying as you dh is away, i would def get to an epu as suggested by others to confirm either way. From my own personal experience i wish i had gone to CARE at Nottingham after my first 2mc's as oppose to waiting for various nhs appointments but it does cost. I didn't have the internet until last year but if i had i would have been a great deal more knowledgable. Prof Regan at St mary's is a good place to start but she and her team are not positive about immune testing such as nkcells as where the argc and care nottingham are. Do research various places. Goodluck lovely and takecare. Let us know how you get on.
XXX.

Ballsed upwith the doctor - I was typically rubbish at begging and settled for a blood test but stupidly forgot to ask what the blood test would show - HCG levels? I've no idea, and how reliable would this blood test be ? basically have to wait till Weds to find out the results - for what they're worth.

So.. I'm still no closer to knowing either way, and without a return of symptoms, bleeding or going to some sort of drop in EPU service, I'm no closer to knowing. I DID do a home preg test and it said positive - which great but but I've no idea if this is normal if you're miscarrying or have miscarried. Any ideas anyone?

Think I will ring doctor back tomorrow and be a bit more prepared...

Blonde which S London Hospital are you referring to please? I could easily get there... I had a look at your list but really wasn't sure about referring myself to the EPU... I noticed that St Thomas in Lambeth is open Seven days a week and 24 hours a day...

Thanks for the 2 MC /gynae info as well. I'm going to ask for a referral to the gynaecologist then. Worth a try, even as a back-up.

Sue good idea re research - but not sure what I'm looking for to be honest. Is there anywhere I can go for further information do you know?

It's a really good idea to go to the EPAU for a check and you can self-refer. If you can get to UCLH, their EPAU (open from 9am I think) allows self-referral I believe, although it might be worth calling first to ask about a good quiet time to go to reduce your wait.

I think as HPTs only confirm the presence of HCG if you are miscarrying or have miscarried you might still show positive - it takes a while to clear out of your system.

Have you tried just asking your GP to refer you to a specialist? Mine referred me after 1 ectopic and 1 mc because I needed some reassurance, but I think the fact that I went in and just said I was there to be referred may have helped... If he won't refer you he might have an idea about who the best person would be for you to see if you are going to go private.

One person you might want to look into if there is something wrong with this pregnancy and if you are thinking of going private is Paul Armstrong. He practices out of a number of London hospitals and lists recurrant miscarriage (including immune issues) as a speciality (he has a website if you want to Google). I saw him on a different matter and he seemed nice enough - I wanted to wait a couple of weeks to see him but he could have seen me sooner. Generally consultations with consultants seem to be about £170-£180 and a scan at the Portland is around the same again.

HTH - I really hope the baby is ok and you don't need any of this info.

UNITUBER thank you for all your help. Don't know where else I'd have got all this info!

St Georges in Tooting is open 8.30 til 11ish Mon to Friday
Best to get there as early as possible to minimise the wait (I got there 8.30 and there was already a queue)
It is on the Gnd floor in Outpatients

You just fill in a form and wait to be called

I've not been to St Thomas but you may be able to self refer there too
I searched the mumsnet archives and people have said you can self refer there so it's worth a try

I'm not sure if you are having a MMC what happens to the HCG levels

TheBlonde · 08/10/2008 22:38

link the the pdf guide for st thomas' emergency gynae unit

It says that you can self refer
