4 early losses, 3 ectopics (no tubes) and now a loss at 15 weeks (IVF). Any tips - what would you do?

Not gonna lie. I have had a tough road.

I started TTC in Jan 2020. I had 2 miscarriages in 2020 (1 at 7 weeks, 1 at 5 weeks). In 2021 I then had an ectopic which was discovered at 7.5 weeks, baby growing on track with heart beat. Left tube removed.

Had some miscarriage investigations (assisted by Professor Regan) only minor blood clotting identified. On baby aspirin for next pregnancy.

i then had my amazing baby boy in Jan 2023 who is now 3.5 and is the best thing that has ever happened to me.

We then had another ectopic in June 2024 which resolved itself very early on and another early miscarriage in March 2025 (about 6 weeks) and then had another ectopic in November 2025, discovered at 6 weeks, baby growing on track but then lost the baby and last remaining tube.

Had a very successful round of IVF in Jan. Retrieved something like 19 eggs and ended up with 12 good quality embryos. One was transferred but didn’t hang around.

We tested 6 of the remaining 11. 3 Euploid (2 x 4AA and 4AB). We transferred one of the 4AA in April.

Apart from a big bleed early on with a possible infection, this pregnancy went well. 12 week scan was more detailed than usual and everything looked great. We did NIPT testing which all looked great. So genetic abnormalities unlikely.

Then just before 14 weeks I had some minor cramping, spotting and increased mucus. Had 2 private scans (couldn’t get into EPU early enough - which is sadly standard) and the baby was fine but I still knew something wasn’t right.

I then went on holiday to Lanzarote, the same minor camps continued as did the spotting and mucus. Then one day it got worse. I went to the hospital and my waters had broken, the baby had past away and I then had to have medical intervention followed by an operation to remove the placenta.

I had raised infection markers - the hospital in Lanzarote said that they thought an infection may have led to the loss.

Lanzarote are doing a number of tests on the baby but I have not yet been able to get hold of the results.

It was horrible and very traumatic and I am only 4 weeks down the line now but doing okish.

I have seen Prof Regan again and yesterday had a hysteroscopy where she took a biopsy, had a good look in my uterus and removed the last pregnancy tissue - sadly Lanzarote had left a lot inside despite doing the procedure over there due to the retained placenta.

I don’t know what I do next. My husband wants to go again as we obviously have spent a lot on IVF and we have a lot of good quality embryos (but has said he will support my decision as it’s me that has to go through it). I have gone through so much shit I know I am strong enough but I am scared for this to happen again.

I know there are still medical bits of the puzzle we need to put together to inform another pregnancy. I have an appointment with a maternity fetal medicine doctor given my history.

But any suggestions, tips or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

My son is my world and I know if I give up now I have the best thing ever and I know I have done everything I can to give him a sibling. But equally we have been on such a journey - I want to conclude what I set out to do.

The pressure on mine and my husbands relationship is also not ideal - it’s a lot of grief to go through together. But that is probably another story for another thread lol.

Thank you so much for reading xxx

You set out to become parents, and you are. You've been through such a lot, but I have no idea why you'd persist. I know there will be the sunk cost fallacy, which sounds wrong to use in relation to trying to conceive, but your health - both mental and physical - is more important than chasing a second child, if you are to be a well and present parent for your son.
I'd stop now. Send love and light to the remaining embryos and just stop.

Take a month or two break and then go again. I know your losses are heartbreaking, but you sound like a very caring and loving mother so it would be a shame to stop
now. Also with so many embryos left, you have such a good chance.

Your husband sounds supportive, I don’t think it’s about the money, it’s about how much you’ve gone through and seeing it to the end.

I know it’s scary facing possible loss again. That would be the worst case scenario. The best case scenario is you have an other lovely child. I think all children are worth it personally.

wishing you healing and joy for the rest of this year
