Ongoing spotting after miscarriage, has anyone else taken longer to recover?

I haven’t ever posted before but really need some reassurance. I have been struggling with secondary infertility for nearly two years now. I had a MMC with medical management on May 16th. I was nearly 14 weeks but baby measured just over 8 weeks.

Since then I had a period 5.5 weeks after the misoprostal. I have had a few bouts of low blood pressure and had a transvaginal ultrasound to check for RPOC. They said everything was clear. A couple of days later I passed what my obstetrician suspects was a decidual cast.

What is bothering me is the constant spotting. I haven’t really stopped since the procedure. It has been mostly brown and mixed with mucus with a few drops of blood around ovulation and day 10-12 luteal phase. After the period - which seemed normal or even heavier than usual - it took days to taper off and the bleeding has just started again following a swab I had yesterday. Is it normal to be this reactive? Has anyone else experienced this?

My husband and I want to begin ttc asap but I am so worried that there is something wrong. I have been referred to haematology for low platelets (they sit around 100 and occasionally dip below) and also a hysteroscopy but I have no idea when that will happen due to nhs waiting times. I also had a isthmocele resection in December which we think is probably the reason I finally got pregnant but now I’m worrying about that as well.

I would be so grateful if anyone could tell me that they also took longer to recover with nothing sinister underlying it. Or that they had success ttc with bleeding lasting longer than usual. I feel completely worn out worrying about my body through infertility and now this.

Thank you

I had several miscarriages and would say if you are still bleeding ask your GP for a blood test to check for anemia (losing more blood than normal will drain you and you will want to have those iron reserves, ferritin too). I think people forget that pregnancy, sadly even when it does end early, is a massive change to the body and the amount of work your body does to prepare is immense. I would get GP to also check B12 before you start as IME most people are low before even starting and that can really help with mood and energy and body repair (might help stop the blood loss). Give yourself some grace here as the loss may not feel quite real and the temptation to jump back in before fully recovering will be high, but you need to really look after yourself first.

@Wipeywipey I have had iron and ferritin and haemoglobin all checked as part of a full blood check. It all came back “normal”. I’ve been taking preconception supplements for the last couple of years and recently have also added to the stack. I do feel really drained and had my thyroid checked, but I guess it could just be emotional.

I’m sorry that you’ve experienced multiple miscarriages. If you don’t mind me asking, did you ever experience ongoing spotting that just turned out to be a slower recovery?
