APS+miscarriage despite protocol-looking for hopeful stories

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to hear from anyone with APS who sadly had a miscarriage despite being on the standard protocol (daily blood thinner injections + aspirin), but then went on to have a healthy pregnancy, either on the same protocol or with any small tweaks.

I had a missed miscarriage even though I was on aspirin and injections and progesterone, and I’m really struggling to find examples of what comes next when this happens. I know every case is different, but I’d love to hear real experiences – especially if things eventually worked out.
Did you stay on the same protocol the next pregnancy?
Did you start injections earlier?
Did you add anything else alongside it?
Did you go on to have a successful pregnancy without changing anything?

I’d really appreciate any replies. Feeling quite anxious and could do with some hope right now.

I'm positive anticardiolipin only, 2 missed miscarriages, second one while under protocol.

Thank you so much 💗

firstly, I’m very sorry for your loss and I hope you are doing as well as you can in the circumstances. Do you have a good support network?

I have APS and had 7+ miscarriages between my 1st and 2nd children. I was lucky, in that once I was diagnosed and put on blood thinners, my second pregnancy on that regime was then successful. I’m not aware of there being further protocols for APS specifically beyond blood thinners. I put the miscarriage I did have while on blood thinners down to “bad luck” (for want of a better way of putting it). I know it’s really hard but I would try not to jump to thinking it must be the APS or some other medical condition which has caused the miscarriage. I do know that some people have success taking steroids (the NK killer cell theory/ Dr Shebata) but not all doctors buy into this - and it’s not something I personally did but might be something to think about if you continue to have problems. I know it was a route I would have investigated if necessary.

I’m so sorry though. It’s bitterly cruel.

I really hope things work out for you soon and I really wish you all the very best.

@Snakesontheplane I'm doing okay thank you! I'm holding in to the hope of having my double rainbow baby this year so that keeps me going. My doctor is great , just takes her time, and i hate the long waits! It's through nhs. I'm sorry for your losses too. It’s reassuring to hear that success is still possible even after a loss on protocol, and I needed the reminder not to immediately assume there must be something else wrong. I’ll definitely keep an open mind going forward. Wishing you all the best 💗

I have suspected APS and my most recent pregnancy was treated with aspirin & blood thinners. Unfortunately it didn’t work. But the pregnancy was tested & it was Turner’s syndrome so the medication wouldn’t have helped anyway. It was just incredibly bad luck. It could be a similar story for you, and that it was a chromosome issue. And hopefully next time it works
