Miscarriage but rising HCG

Hi,

I will explain this as best as I can as my mind is a little scrambled.
I had a miscarriage at 4 weeks and 4 days. I bled heavily for around 8/9 days. I went to my GP (on day 4 of the bleed) who confirmed miscarriage and that was that.
A week and 5 days later (Tuesday) I went back to the doctors (different GP) due to having an uncomfortable pain in my lower left abdomen. Like a dull ache, sometimes worse than others. Like a light period cramp. she took some swabs and sent them off but also referred me to the hospital. I went to an appointment the following morning.
Whilst there, they did bloods (hcg only 97) and a pregnancy test - still positive. They also did a scan and couldn’t see anything. An internal scan didn’t show anything either, other than hemorrhagic cysts on my left ovary (same side as the ‘dull ache’) so thoughts were that’s what the cause was.
Because they didn’t have anything to compare my bloods to, I had to go back this morning for more done. They've just rang and they’ve risen but only to 138. They are now thinking ectopic but I’d be 6/7 weeks at this point and they didn’t see anything on the scan. I asked the nurse and she said there’s a chance it could be small. She also asked if it could be a new pregnancy but I only stopped bleeding last Wednesday and had sex that weekend so it’s all too soon for it to be that.
Has anyone experienced similar? Any thoughts? This is my first experience of pregnancy so it’s all unknown to me.
I’m back at the hospital on Sunday for a third set of bloods. Other than this now light and intermittent cramping, I feel fine in myself.
Sorry for rambling.

Aww bless you 🫶🏼
I experienced something similar 22 years ago. It turned out to be a 9 week ectopic pregnancy by the time the hospital decided to remove it along with the fallopian tube.

Initially they tried to fob me off with a complete miscarriage & it was only my insistence that stated "I didn't feel pregnant nor did I feel it was a miscarriage could something else be going on"?

The hospital arranged daily bloods for a week that continued to rise but not double (expected in a healthy pregnancy)
I already had 2 precious babies 💙💝

I'm relieved to say I was blessed to conceive the following year (planned pregnancy) & completed our family of 3
💙💝💝

If I was you, please trust your instincts & don't allow them to dismiss your concerns.
I hate to imagine what could have been, if I didn't speak up! (I still have my discharge notes stating a complete miscarriage!!) 🤦🏽‍♀️

I would be pushing for further investigations before things get serious.
I wish you well & should your symptoms change, get to A&E asap. xxx

Thank you for your reply @FlorenceB19.
I’m happy with what the hospital have done so far. Everyone has been really kind and I do feel listened to.
I guess it just feels a bit like they gone ‘yeah, we think it’s ectopic, see you Sunday!’ when all I’ve heard is how dangerous they can be.
When I go on Sunday, the nurse did say I might not be allowed to leave until my results come back and then it depends on what they say. They do sound prepared to ‘do’ something as soon as they have this third blood test.

I’m sorry for what you went through and I’m glad you managed to complete your family ☺️xxx

I did re-read your initial comment & I agree that the hospital appears to be ready to explore the likelihood of an ectopic pregnancy.

My heart goes out to you as it's a difficult situation you face.

I hope you are blessed with a speedy recovery and no long lasting complications 🤞🏼🙏🏻🤞🏼

I'm unsure how surgery has progressed over the years but after my surgery I wasn't able to drive for 6-8 weeks (left with a caesarean kind of scar) which isn't an issue) it's being mindful of the recovery time required after surgery.

Please keep me updated & I wish you the best 💞🫶🏼
