Missed miscarriage 13 weeks

I’m just back from my scan. We had a private one at 8 weeks, saw a healthy baby.
No heartbeat at this one, and baby measuring 11 weeks.
Feels so cruel that I’ve carried on having symptoms the last 2 weeks. I’m just broken
Any advice on what happens next. I’m so sad that I’ve been walking around in a happy pregnancy bubble while it’s not actually carried on

Oh lovely, I am so sorry. I went through the same a week today and I am still getting my head around at it all. I had medication to aid the miscarriage and I had an awful experience - I’ve heard others haven’t so may just be me but if you’re offered it, I’d go surgical.

TheFutureIs · 03/09/2025 11:53

I think that’s what I’m planning to do, as 2 weeks on and my body still has symptoms and no sign anything was wrong. I’m meant to be back at work tomorrow after the summer. No idea when I’ll feel ready

Have the EPU told you when to go back? Mental they’re leaving you so long. I had mine the day after I found out. I was on progesterone as was an IVF miracle baby so no way body was going to do it alone 😞

TheFutureIs · 03/09/2025 13:30

Sorry, I meant it was 2 weeks ago the pregnancy ended. EPU are calling today

@TheFutureIs I am so sorry you're going through this, there is something especially cruel about a missed miscarriage. I've had two and both times opted for the surgical option because I wanted it over as quickly as possible. Both times I was under general anaesthetic and it was an easy, calm experience with very little pain afterwards. I've never gone for the tablets, but was told that they are taken 3 days apart, so there would have been a bit more waiting. I had concerns about the risk of scarring with thesurgery, but both times have fallen pregnant again easily afterwards. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate. I am sending you the biggest hug and hope that the next part is as easy as it can be. xx

I’ve got an appointment with epu on Friday, and sounds like surgery will be Wednesday

How long did you bleed after @Fletchasketch

@TheFutureIs I'm so so sorry you're going through this. The shock of finding out is horrible. I had one in January and opted for a D&C. I was brought down to theatre at 8:35am and was back on the ward by 9:45am. Home by 3pm. I took painkillers for that day and that was it. I never needed anymore. Very minimal bleeding and pain afterwards. The bleeding was like the end of my period.
I then had a blighted ovum in June and opted for medical management. I wasn't keen on the idea of another surgery only four months later and I liked the thought of being at home in my own comforts. I also read a lot of horror stories but for me, it was absolutely fine. It was all very manageable.
Any questions just ask. And again, I'm so sorry you're going through this x

TheFutureIs · 03/09/2025 14:54

Thank you @SureLookthat’s really reassuring. I just want this to be over

@TheFutureIs I was the same and that's why I opted for the D&C the first time. It's a bit more controlled and it's over and done with x

Fletchasketch · 03/09/2025 15:02

@TheFutureIs really not long at all, a bit that day and then small amounts for the following week, but less than a period. They ask you not to use tampons afterwards to avoid infection, so I bought period pants from M&S which were a godsend.

TheFutureIs · 03/09/2025 15:51

Thanks @FletchasketchI’ve ordered myself some
of those.

Looks like I’m booked in for tomorrow for the procedure, realised the other date was my DD’s 9th birthday. Didn’t want it to forever be linked

Fletchasketch · 05/09/2025 14:32

@TheFutureIs hope you feel a bit better now that it's over. The next few weeks will be tough, but know that it does gradually get easier and that there is hope after loss. Look after yourself xx
