Missed miscarriage - slow heart rate slow growth 10 weeks

Hello,

I had a scan last Wednesday (NHS) and they found baby measuring at 7 weeks 3 days with faint heart beat. I’m currently 10 weeks. Had been having spotting and pregnant symptoms lessened so secured an early scan. They told me likely result in miscarriage but have to scan again in a week. Have my scan tomorrow. Been spotting still but nothing heavy.

Anyone out there who has experienced / experiencing similar?

Is it very likely to result in miscarriage?

What miscarriage management do people recommend? Surgical or medical?

Thank you to anyone who responds 😊 feeling in a state of shock / limbo

I had a mmc where my baby had stopped growing at six weeks. I began spotting at eight weeks and passed the pregnancy at nine weeks. I ended up in A&E as I was bleeding very heavily so please do get in touch with a hospital if you start to feel unwell.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Whilst I would prepare yourself for the worst, there's still some hope with a heartbeat. I've had two MMC and both times opted for the surgery which was painless and straightforward. It made me feel like I could move on more quickly too. I didn't like the unpredictable nature of the tablet and the fact that they don't always work, but it's a very personal decision. Keeping my fingers crossed for some better news tomorrow.

Thank you both for your responses 🙏

That’s good to know re A&E. What did they do once you got there? Our local A&E is usually a 15 hour average wait time 😓

@Fletchasketch I really want to opt for surgery as I’m not good with blood and to move on quicker too. But the early pregnancy unit said their surgery lists are in huge demand so it’ll be a two week wait and I will likely miscarry naturally before the surgery comes along. I’m hoping I make it to the surgical option if no heart beat tomorrow 😢

Thinking of you today.

I'm sorry, a two week wait is rubbish. I was 'lucky' enough to be booked in for surgery the following day which made the decision for me. For my second miscarriage, there was no sign of anything happening two weeks later after the pregnancy had ended, so it may not start in that time. I am hoping that you won't need this advice, but buying basic M&S period pants was a big help for me as it felt a bit nicer than using the massive pads they give you. All the best x

@Fletchasketch thank you for thinking of me, that’s very kind.

Yesterday’s scan showed no heart beat 😢 they managed to book me in for surgery today which I was not expecting. Although she said they’d just had a cancellation so I think I got very lucky. X

I’m so sorry it was not good news. There is nothing I can say that makes it easier, but know that it does gradually get better with time. Hope today goes as well as it can, if you have any questions about recovery, do let me know. If it helps at all, I felt fine afterwards and the bleeding/pain was less than I expected. Take care x
